If Poles and Warren are dead set to roll with Fields, the Bears could still technically hold his rights for 3 more years before he breaks the bank long term by exercising the 5th year option at $20+M in 2025 and a franchise tag of just over $40M in 2026 if they cannot agree to a long term deal.  Fields' agent David Mulugheta is the same dude who, despite all the off field controversy, was able to con the Browns into giving Watson $230M fully guaranteed.  So say Fields play improves and he goes on a playoff run or 2 the next couple years.  Then yeah $50M per/$200M guar could easily be a baseline by 2026.  Hell a garbage QB like Dan Jones got himself $40M per/$92M guar and the Giants will probably still be in the QB market come draft time.

That is why as much as I would love to see Fields and MHJ/Bowers excel for the Bears and make a run, I can totally understand the long term thinking of just resetting with Caleb and trading Fields assuming they have the number 1 pick.  Unlike the Panthers, the Bears have an ascending OL, a number 1 WR and decent TE, and a young improving defense to support him.  Of course I am assuming common sense prevails and the current coaching staff is launched to the next galaxy.  But if Williams works out, the financial flexibility for Bears cannot be understated.

I’m guessing the Bears pass on Marvin Harrison and with a trade back.  As Harrison becomes a great receiver we’ll complain about the 3 mediocre players we drafted with the picks we received.

I don’t know what to think of Verse.  I’ve seen 3 or 4 of his games and he looks hard to block but doesn’t look like a hair on fire pass rusher.  I suspect his coaching is play the run first  but I’m skeptical of his game translating to the NFL.

Caleb Williams has an awful team around him and usually has to improvise.
But I see him having the same issues as Fields.  Also his maturity level is not NFL ready.

According to Baldinger Braxton Jones had the two best games of his career the last couple of weeks.  Will they really need the Penn State tackle or Alt?

Verse, right now, is the closest edge guy that I'm aware of going top 10.  I can't say that I've been following the 2024 draftables just yet.  So there may be others too.  We'll have to see how the remaining games go then there's the combine and the evaluations.  But Verse does address a huge need as DeMarcus Walker and Robinson are the only returning DEs.  Green and Nkagoue will be FAs.

Bears are really thin at WR with Mooney on an expiring deal.   But there's more depth at WR in R1 if the Bears pass or trade out of MJH.

As for LT, it might not be about how good Braxton Jones is but may be more about how good they expect Olu Fashanu (and Alt) to be.

It definitely isnt. I am not interested in Williams at all. There are other very capable QBs in this draft. Hopefully our scouts can figure out which one.

Jayden Daniels isnt a bad choice

I am not for or against drafting Caleb Williams.  I saw what he did to the Longhorns when he was with the Sooners after relieving Rattler a couple years back.   Just looking at his stats. 30 TDs 5 picks.   Last year 42/5.

I'll agree he's no longer the consensus #1 pick as he was a month or so ago, but he's productive.

 Keep Fields.

 Trade the Panthers pick.

Draft a BACKUP QB (see : Brett Favre/Aaron Rodgers ).

Do something at DE with the recently re acquired Panthers pick second rounder.

Get a Center with the money saved sending Whitehair to retirement.

Before getting anybody ... check out their WORK ETHIC and INJURY HISTORY.

After yer done drooling over their athletic ability.

Well, the Patriots managed to win one Thursday, which gives the Bears a little breathing room, with the Panthers having to win at least two to lose the #1 pick.  Could make for an interesting draft next year, with trade-downs galore.

I think Poles and Warren know exactly what they're doing with Fields. No way are they still "grading". This is Fields 3rd season, they know what they have.

This team lacks play makers. Do you find those guys "trading down"? Maybe, the draft is all a crap shoot.

This team needs to start to string together some wins. Losing breeds losing. Even some of the fans have come to accept losing... Every year it's the same excuses, from the same people..

Yeah you just have to wonder on all those plays Fields is scanning the field what if Marvin Harrison was out there with Moore and Mooney.

Makes decisions a lot easier.
