So, a bit of change of subject here.  I pretty much wear the same boots to work every day and I wear them out usually in 6 to 8 months when the sole separates from the boot.  The boots generally cost me anywhere from 80 to 150 bucks depending on what I get and if they are on sale or not.

Anyway, after doing a ton of research, I bit the bullet and bought some Redwing Iron Rangers.  They are not cheap, but I am hoping they will last me years.  If they last me three to four years even if I have to have them re-soled, I will be money ahead.  Some folks say they last them 10 to 20 years or more with proper care and maintenance.

Anyone have any experience with the Redwing heritage line or similar leather hand stitched boots?

Make sure they take side scuffs, you'd be surprised the amount of wear that happens on the sides of boots.

Even the best boots made wear out pretty fast (90 days -) by side scuffs

The best I used to get were from Sears if they wore out before the one year warranty you could go back and get them replaced at no charge.

I don't know who covers that kind of warranty today.

Those redwing boots look like dress boots. Soles don't look like they grip very well. I wear Timberland Pro..

I work on concrete indoors, so traction won't be a problem.  I have already bought them, and I am breaking them in slowly wearing them at home or on short trips.

They are very well made.  Hopefully they last as long as everyone says they do.

Oh, and the soles aren't like dress shoes but they are not the chunky work boot soles I am used to either.

They are grippy enough though.  I am more worried about them lasting and the soles not coming unglued from the boot like all the others I have owned have.

I think as long as I condition the leather and take care of them I should be good.  I have worn them all day for the first time and while I have a few sore spots they are pretty comfortable and the insoles I bought for them are helping my arches.

Redwing has this whole computerized deal that you step on and walk over and the computer tells you what size you need and what insoles to buy for your feet and the footwear you are buying them for.  So far seems legit.

To be clear I have spent some serious cash on work boots before, but they all fail in about the same amount of time no matter the brand name.  Oh you might get a few more months out of the more expensive ones but not much.  I just have not spent 500 dollars on boots before.  The difference is these are welded, hand stitched and can be re-soled.

These boots cost 350 from redwing but they are all sold out in my size for the boot I wanted locally and on their website.  I had to spend 380 on amazon and it turned out they came from Great Britain.  I have prime so I am guessing the extra money was built into the shipping.

Plus, they do not come with insoles which was another 85 bucks.  But I had gone to the Red Wing store and did the whole fitting thing and bought the insoles there.  Which is where I found out the heritage boots are pretty much all sold out and the red wing stores can't even start ordering them again until spring.
