What a win!  Props to the guy dropping the easy td pass on the second to last play.

That WR for Lions was a rookie I believe.  Feel sorry for him.  But damn that was a good game!  We played like dog shite the first 3 Q but came alive in the 4th.   Sure beat last years opener!!

The trouble, that should have been a TD and Bear loss. Somehow we woke up. Looked like we were playing a preseason game. I thought we were dead meat after the first half.

Got out with a win and as far as I could tell no injuries.  Lions fans have to be crushed.  Not only do they choke another one away at the end after a big lead they had a ton of injuries.

Oh and that dropped pass in the end zone.  Ouch!

Graham looked like he had two left hands for three quarters but he turned it around in the 4th quarter along with the rest of the offense.

Jimmy Graham 2 poorly timed jumps that were very costly.  the guy has a caught a ball before right?  Anthony Miller 2 questionable routes and 2 drops.  Mack once again, single teamed and gets close but cant close the deal.  And surprisingly Mingo filling in for the injured mighty Quinn.  Not sure what Quinn brings to the party, but the D looks gassed.  Montgomery looks good, keep feeding him the ball.  And Mooney, please target him, a lot more.

Mack was committed over the off season to improve on last season.  He's still a factor on every play - but no sacks against a backup right tackle...on turf?

Mingo...Vaughters are not the answer at ROLB. Bears desperately need a healthy Quinn.  Hicks had a sack but looked like he isn't himself yet.

Skrine and the 2 ILBs seemed to be targeted on numerous pass plays but I thought our corners held up well,,,especially the rookie.

Here's my take on the game.

This was one of those wins that feels like a loss based on the play of the Bears.  It rested on a dropped winning TD by the Lions late in the game.
The Lions were severely undermanned with their starting corner Okuda out and later the other corner Trufant left the game.  Their best RB didn't play except to drop the TD pass
and their OL had a rookie RG and second string RT.

But anyway, the Bears still had a job to do which they largely left on the table.

here's my opinion:

Trubisky.

The first half looked like a continuation of last year.  Nauseatingly like last year.  Did all the changes and hard work and talk produce nothing?
Tru still had that scared and confused look we find all to often.  He still overthrew receivers and showed inacuracy.  He didn't throw picks which is probably the only reason they were still even in the game.

The only ray of hope I saw was that he wasn't missing by much.  Could it be the lack of normal training camp?  Can that be improved?

He had a nice first half TD pass to Robinson but Robinson only had his left hand on the ball.  The defender was holding his right arm straight up but no PI call.

Then the fourth quarter came.....do or die.... and Mitch has 3 TD passes in 3 drives.  Whhhaaattt????
Did a coach yell at him?  Did he turn off his headset?

AS we've seen several times, he seems to play his best game on the comeback.  When it's "you have to go out and win the game now" he makes the plays.
Maybe "you be you" is replaced with a kick in the arse.  I don't know.

Ben Roethlisburger and Phillip Rivers have made a career out of this type of game, but Mitch doesn't have the steps of success to really celebrate a game like this.

Coaching:

The Bears look to me like a pretty talented offense that just can't get over the top of the hill.  They look ready to break out but just can't do it.
Juan Castillo pleasantly surprised by teaching the OL how to run block with success between the tackles.  Still it seemed like they had no real offensive game plan.
Why didn't they attack the backup corner.  Why didn't they have the new tight ends out for more short passes to move the chains?  Antonio Gates played the last 5 years of his career going out 7-10 yards and standing there Where Phillip River could simply throw it high where only Gates could get it.

Defense:

The front seven that was supposed to be the strength of the team looked old and relatively ineffective.  This is alarming.
Mack did a "nice" job rushing the passer but just came close and had no sacks against a second string tackle.  Not particularly disruptive.
The last couple of weeks it was reported he had a bad knee, so maybe that's part of it, or maybe he just hit the wall and will never be the player he was 2 years ago.

The rest of the line was not good.  No one could get a pass rush.  Hicks was a non factor against a rookie guard except 1 sack play.  No penetration otherwise.
It was disappointing to see the Lions run on the defense like that.  So much for Nichols and Robertson Harris having great camps.

Trevathan looks like he lost a step, we'll see.  I couldn't say how Smith played.  He was out there but I don't know.

The corners played well.  Fuller is a pro bowl quality guy.  Johnson had some rookie issues with speed and toughness of NFL receivers but recovered well.

The safeties?  meh.  Amendola with no speed was sure open in the middle of the field on a few third and long plays.

Maybe this team will shake off some rust the next few weeks.  They didn't seem to have the sense of urgency I saw from other teams this week.

This is a time for good coaching to put this puzzle together.   If they can't do it....

The lack of pass rush was the most concerning to me.  Once the Lions realized the pass rush wasn't there they started hurting us with the mid to deep routes.  The blitzing is what did them in late in the game.  Better teams will make them pay for blitzing.  Rodgers will own this defense if they can't get a better pass rush.

We need Quinn to get healthy and on the field.  Mack was being handled one on one by a rookie.  That does not bode well for the future.

I expected the Offense to be rusty.  Defense is normally ahead of the offense early in the year and more so this year with no pre-season games and half azzed training camps.

If the defense is not top ten this year the Bears will be lucky to get to 500.  Hopefully the offense will improve week to week.

The defense looked uninspired coming out of the half.  Mack did rally the troops though which is a good thing.  They showed him on the sidelines firing them up.

On one of the highlight shows they talked about league wide lack of pass rush.  They said since there was no crowd noise that the OL could hear the snap count well giving the defense a huge disadvantage.  Something like 10 QB's throw over 70% completion due to the amount of time they had.

I think that was part of the problem.

I really, really do not like our offensive play calling....and that is Nagy.  He needs to let the OC have a try.  Nagy gets to cute.  We were running it up the middle for 5-8 yards early in game, we needed to do that more but went away from it even before the score dictated it.

Haven't had the ability to see the whole game yet, only glimpses during RedZone and some highlights here and there. My first impression was when they switched to the Bears early for one of the redzone plays and it was the "Cohen up the middle" drive killer play Nagy just will not get rid of. It seems whenever they run that play, the drive always stalls.

Anyway, the comeback was sweet but somehow feels a little undeserved. Lions did choke big time but at least the Bears didn't choke by losing (although that WR that dropped the game winner is going to have nightmares about that one)....
