I've been thinking about a comp for Monty.  In a Bears uniform, it would be Payton but I can't put him in that class.  His comp overall may be a Maurice Jones Drew?

When Walter was great, the rest of the team sucked. When the team got better, Walter was a shell of his former self. Great athlete, great person. Players today could learn a lot...

He never really dropped off production wise until his final year in 1987.  In '85 he had 1551 yards and in '86 1331 - no drop-off in receiving yards either.

I'd take Walter as a shell of his former self in 84-87 than almost all backs in their prime back then......

There were a lot of good ones back then.  Dorsett, Dickerson off the top of my head.  Earl Campbell was tailing off by 84, but and awesome back.

who would sign Trubisky to a big contract & consider him a starter?

Pace's trade for Foles is another one in which no other GM would have made. It's a complete albatross.

Nick Foles is not very mobile and struggles when pressured.  We all know that.  But who's to say that with an improved running game and somewhat better pass blocking that Foles would not succeed too.

Come on, Detroit, Houston and Minnesota are not exactly big time defenses.  So what changed between the first Minnesota game where the offense never got into the end zone and last Sunday's Minnesota game?

Besides Trubisky replacing Foles, Montgomery was out of the lineup.  And so was Minnesota's leading tackler MLB Kendricks.  Also that first game was one of the last games that Coward started at LG and Ifedi was at RG.  Both have been replaced or moved to a new position.

Another big difference is the play calling.  Trubisky did not just sit back in the pocket like Foles did a month ago with Zimmer overloading a side of the line and generated pressure.

Not advocating starting Foles, but he might still be valuable as a backup next year, but he just might not be a cost effective backup.

They were so reluctant to play Bars and now that they had to find out he’s not bad.  Mustipher too.

I also realized Whitehair played 4 years of LT in college but was assumed to be a guard .

Have to wonder how he would do at tackle.

Nah. This staff will draft (or Pace will TRADE FOR)  a non-oline player and try to turn him into an Olineman- just to show how smart they are (although Big Cat Williams was a DE if I recall....)

The SCORE was having some fun with scenarios of how the Bears could screw up their little playoff chance.

One is they lose to Mike Glennon and the Jags and beat the Packers starters when it’s too late.

Or they beat the Jags and lose to the Packers second string.

I think Foles is a better back up than Glennon.  If we let Trubisky walk, Foles is not a bridge QB.  He's a back-up.  He can run the offense for a few games until he starts to feel foot steps.  Foles likes to be in shotgun, which I think hurt Montgomery's effectiveness.  Perhaps it also affected the way the line blocked.  foles would beat Rivers in a foot race, maybe, but that is likely the end of that list.  He doesn't threaten or present the possibility of a threat to run the ball.  The defense has to account for Trubisky.  That has opened up the passing game because defenders didn't need to worry about Foles tucking and running.

I see two very probable distinct possibilities:

1. Bears win playing well then go into the GB game and step on their own dicks....

2. Bears go into playing the Jaguars confident and step on their own dicks.....

Based on recent history, both are the most likely scenarios.......

But if they do win both games (a slim chance IMHO), Cards will not lose one the Bears need them to lose (pretty good odds I think).....

Still think the last few games are fool's gold. Only reason Monty got the number of carries he did was because Patterson got dinged up. Monty would've carried less in the 2nd than he did (just like last time when he played well in the 1st half of a game). Nagy still does not understand personel......

If the Bears somehow lose to the Jags then a loss to the Pack would be best for draft position preceded by a house cleaning.

I'll be watching the O-line like I always do on offense and with the injuries in the defensive backfield we'll get to see the young DBs.  I've been impressed with rookie Johnson but he's not the most willing tackler.

After seeing the beclowning of the Vikings defense yesterday by the Alvin Kamara, it does put a bit of perspective on the Monty performance the week before. I don't remember one Saints punt.....
