Pleasantly surprised. The team looks confident, competent and competitive. In fact Seattle looks like what I thought the Bears would look like.
Negatives:
1. The Oline is not good enough (as if we didn't know that already). It at least appears they can run block, so that's a start but when the bullets start really flying, look out.....
2. The non-challenge on the catch sucked, and I hope someone asked about that in the post-presser. A lot of places make the availability to access replays a little more delayed for the visiting team, and I wouldn't be surprised for the "13th man" (the 12th of course being the fans) a.k.a the scoreboard operator having an influence....
3. Pete Carol was a dick for calling a timeout at the end of the game after the Bears took a knee. Come to think of it, wasting an onside kick (and possibly giving any tells away) in preseason is not a smart move either....
4. Not as strong at the finish as the start and middle of the game. This is a good coaching point I'd be pretty sure Flus would use this week....
Positives:
1. Did I say they looked competent ? It seems that word is coming up a lot from anyone whose seen this team so far....
2. The players are flying around like their hair is on fire, and how long has it been since we've seen offensive linemen pushing the pile down field instead of spinning in place looking down at the play like those plastic figures from that electric football game from the 70s ?
3. The defense is also flying around. Just look at how many are around the ball either on each tackle or just afterward coming toward the tackle. HITS indeed.....
In conclusion, its only a pre-season game, where the only real take-aways are those who are injured and whether things look like they are at least firing close to all cylinders. So far they pass the eye-test. But unless the talent develops (and that takes time) this team has a long way to go. And right now its looking like a trip worth going on....
Go Bears !
