Is Montreal available?  I would love to see a team move there, and there is still a die-hard fan base that misses Les Expos.

Canada is out.  They require a 14 day quarantine with travel to the US.

Blue,

I was going to ask you this in the P & R board but I've stopped going there for now. I have a friend who works with OSHA who is telling me the cloth masks people are making don't block a thing either way and that they can build up mildew and mold so that they are actually a detriment to our health. She also said that the N95 masks and others with exhale ports are designed for contaminated areas so they don't block a Covid positive person's contaminated air particles.

Also said Surgical masks are meant for a sterilized environment. So after exposure to non-sterile for any more than 20 minutes they are clogged very quickly which means if you come in contact with a Covid positive person the mask can trap it and you become a receptacle and dispenser. I haven't heard any of this elsewhere but wondered what a doctor would think about her characterizations. If true, then the masks are doing as much harm as good, giving people a false sense of security and this thing is either going to continue to spread, endangering the season, or die out or be vaccinated if one of these trials works.

If I was better at the internet I'd post a Luke Skywalker quote from the Last Jedi, but absolutely none of this is true. (It is a meme on Facebook, I've seen it).

1.) N95 masks block 95% of particulate matter in the air.  For medical purposes you need to fit tested to make sure they form a tight seal and there are no leaks.  If they have no leaks the virus will not enter the mask period.  Medical people wears these into COVID-19 + rooms or a PAPR helmet.  With this and eye protection the risk of getting infected is close to zero.
2.) Surgical masks and cloth masks are NOT meant to protect you.  They are meant to protect others FROM you.  Yes, they won't filter out as much of the virus (which is carried in a water droplet and water droplets can be expelled with just talking).  You absolutely shouldn't touch the front of mask and if you do you should wash your hands immediately.
3.) Here is what studies have found.
-Wearing a cloth/surgical mask around a COVID + patient and they aren't wearing a mask leads to about a 70% chance of infection.
-A COVID+ patient wearing a cloth or surgical mask and you wearing nothing leads to an under 10% of you getting infected.
-A COVID+ paitent wearing a mask and you wearing a mask leads to about a 1.5% of you getting infected.

The cloth/surgical masks will filter out some of the droplets from people leading to exposure to a lower viral load, which leads to less of a change of getting infected.

SO IN CONCLUSION YOU WEAR A MASK TO PROTECT OTHERS, THEY WEAR A MASK TO PROTECT YOU.  NOT WEARING A MASK MEANS YOU ARE AN ****, DON'T BE AN ****.  IF WE ALL WEAR A MASK THINGS CAN OPEN UP AND BASEBALL GETS PLAYED.  IF WE DON'T THERE WILL BE ADDITIONAL LOCKDOWNS, ECONOMY TANKS AND NO BASEBALL.  WEAR A MASK.
OSHA people that take a 30-40 hour class have no clue what they are talking about and doesn't compare to the 50,000 hours of medical school and residency of a doctor.

The person I talked to must have been quoting that.  Thanks for the info.  Just to be clear,  even the homemade cloth masks can be effective?

Yes. Not at protecting you, protecting others from you. Not all cloths masks are equal. A double sided mask with the ability to add a paper product in between is better than a double sided cloth mask which is better than a single layer cloth mask. A single layer cloth mask is better than nothing. Just the act of talking can spread droplets feet without a mask.

I have difficulty understanding these people who are so adamantly against masks.   Do they think they're being disloyal to Trump?  Do they think it shows cowardice?  Are they just stupid?

My problem with wearing a mask is none of the above.  If I wear one too long I start to feel short of breath.  I've tried several different types hence my questions. And thanks Blue for the info.

Are deaths and hospitalizations also up as well? I thought I saw a per day overlay that showed both were continuing the downward trend despite the increased cases.

Hospitalizations usually lag about 2 weeks and deaths at 3 weeks.  Houston before they started to cancel elective surgeries thought they had about 2 weeks before they started to have to use overflow.  Cancelling elective surgeries might by them another week or two.

The more you wear them, the more use to the masks you'll get.  Try wearing them in your house in cool temps at rest and then gradually adding some activity.  There is nothing about any of the masks that will decrease your oxygen levels unless you have severe COPD or uncontrolled asthma.  I wore an N95 for 2 hours and then ran up and down a hall a couple of time and my O2 saturation was 98%.

Based on the current agreement, Collin McHugh will technically owe the Red Sox $64,000 this year.

https://www.bostonglobe.com/2020/06/23/sports/heres-how-shortened-season-will-affect-some-red-sox-salaries/?event=event25

Thankfully it looks like McHugh won't have to pay anything back after all.

Players who received an advance in April and May that is total to more than their prorated salary during the 2020 season do *not* have to pay anything back. Teams get their money back from a joint fund between the MLB and the MLBPA.

Maybe they're afraid of really weird tan lines.

I can truthfully say that my family wears one and people around here will look at you funny or want to have a political speach with you about it.

A dude told me a couple days ago that if you wore one you were just adding fire to the conspiracy.

This dude looked to be in his 60's so he probably should rethink that.

It’s almost like we could learn something from all the countries that controlled the outbreak, flattened the curve, and then got R<1.

Remind me, what do they *all* do about the mask and social distancing bit? Is there a common theme?

Hadn't heard about this possibility: Source at the end

Is the “Nashville plan” going to become a reality?

There has been discussion of a plan that would involve sending 40-60 unsigned free agents -- mostly players who played at Triple-A or in the Majors last season -- to Nashville, Tenn., where they would make up a pair of teams that could serve as a pool of emergency callups for the 30 MLB teams. The Nashville Sounds -- the Rangers’ Triple-A affiliate -- would host the group.

“The Nashville Sounds Baseball Club has had discussions with Major League Baseball about the possibility of hosting games that would consist of free agents competing against each other at First Horizon Park this summer,” the club tweeted on Wednesday. “We continue to have meaningful discussions with baseball officials and local health officials with hopes of baseball in Nashville in 2020.”

Given the possibility of COVID-19 infections to go along with other potential injuries, a group of free agents who are ready to play could be a big plus for clubs, especially if they find themselves facing a barrage if injuries or illnesses.

Nashville GM & COO Adam Nuse told The Tennessean that he has a list of about 70 potential free agents who could be part of such a plan. Games in Nashville could be played between the free-agent teams every Thursday through Sunday beginning around the same time as MLB’s Opening Day.

Mark Feinsand, an executive reporter, originally joined MLB.com as a reporter in 2001.

Yeah that's starting to get talked up a lot in Nashville.  Sounds like it's something that's going to happen.

They also all have socialized medicine as opposed to our Ayn Rand insurance system.
