And there it is. Three straight games with six homers for the Yankees.

Well for a franchise that's never really accomplished a whole lot, it sure it nice that they'll always have that to hang their hats on.

This is a bullpen problem.

Phillies bullpen in last 13 games:  42 IP-  41 earned runs-  13 homers allowed.

Our bullpen actually looks halfway decent compared to that!

New York set a major league record for most home runs in a three-game span with 19 -- three more than the previous high -- and became the first team with six or more home runs in three straight games.

From Jayson Stark:

Tim Anderson: 19 hits in his last 11 games (19-for-48)

Gary Sánchez: 19 hits … all season! (19-for-131)

Has anyone noticed how well Thomas Hatch has pitched for the Jays this season?

Are you saying we should forget the great David Phelps era?

Here's a variant re. the scoring decision we talked about the other day---but in today's Dodgers/Rockies game.  Box score below.

SP out after 2 innings with Dodgers holding a 1-run lead that is never relinquished.  Scorer gives the Win to the reliever who pitched 8th and 9th innings and entered the game wih the Dodgers up 15-6.  Pitched two perfect innings in a wash-up role.

Scorer could have given win to either of two relievers who entered the game early with Dodgers leading only 4-3 and pitched scoreless 1.1 innings each.  The guy who got the win pitched the best in the box score but the other two guys entered a 1-run game and pitched effectively.  Thoughts?

I thought about that last night when I saw the box score around the 5th inning...since I have Graterol in another fantasy league.

Giving the win to a guy pitching 2 mopup innings with a 9 run lead seems pretty weak.

Verlander is having Tommy John surgery.

He didn't really play this year, and he probably won't play next year. Will he be able to make a successful comeback in 2022 at 39 years old?

Lots of competition for playoff spots in NL.  Padres and division leaders are ≥9 games over .500 and sure in.
But for spots 5-8, relative to .500:
   *Marlins +2, Phillies +1, Cardinals = Reds =Giants 0, Brewers -2.

So six teams bunched for four spots.  I'd prefer not to face the Reds.

I'd not mind having the Reds staff face the Dodgers in a short series and perhaps pull off an upset.

The key race for us is with the Braves, where we have a 1-game lead and the tiebreaker.  Losing Wick is a huge blow.

After 50 games last year, the Nationals were 19-31. They ended up winning the championship.

After 50 games this year, the Nationals are 19-31. Can they win 10 in a row, back in as the last wild card, and go all the way again?
