I'd think ~$275.

2024, three tiers in the top 14:
1.  Tier 1:  NY, LA, NY ($350-314)
2.  Tier 2:  Braves, Philly, Houston, Texas, Giants ($278-248).
3.  Tier 3:  Toronto, Cubs, Padres, Boston, Arizona, St. Louis ($235-215).

I’ve said about $20 above the first CBT tier, which would be $257 in 2024. CBT goes to $241 in 2025, so about $260.

Phillies spending is unusual as their owner has said he “doesn’t care” how much he spends on payroll. See link below. Yes, John Middleton is a better owner than Ricketts but he’s unusual.

Braves spending varies year to year quite a bit. Braves were at $246 [Roster Resource/Fangraphs] in 2023 and jumped a lot in 2024.

Roster Resource has Astros, Rangers, Giants all below $257 for 2024 at $253, 252, 253. In 2023, those clubs were $226, 237, 217. So, they too have been all over the place.

In 2023. padres and Jays were big spenders….and then dropped down in 2024.

Only consistent big spenders are the NY and L.A. clubs and the Phillies “I don’t care how much I spend” owner.

Think that $275 for Cubs is unrealistic compared to any consistent spending pattern of other clubs, aside from NY, LA, Phils, if you look at last couple seasons.

Well, maybe you can find some previous posts with a dollar figure. First time as far as I can tell. If I’m wrong about you, search and post.

reb, Im not sure how different the different lux tax trackers are.  I like spotrac because that's convenient for other sports, too.  And they've got so many ways to sort.  No idea if it's sometimes less accurate by a couple of mill.
https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/tax/_/year/2024/sort/tax_total

They've got a column for "tax + bill".  Mets $450, Dodgers $428, Cubs $235.  Phillies and Braves at $294 and $272.

Reb, you mention teams jumping around.  I think that's normal and to be expected.  The biggest jumper this year was LA.  In the "Tax+Bill" column, they jumped from $258 to  $428, that's a $170 jump!  Bigger than the Cubs jump... of $4.

Yeah, agreed, lots of jumping around on payroll.

It’s not like if Cubs got to X amount that some want, we should expect the same one year to next. Aside from NY/L.A. that’s what happens—jumping around.

Spotrac and RR are close but not the same. I prefer RR because it has player-by-player salaries that show the underlying details.

Kind of amazing that perennial contenders Yankees and Dodgers have not squared off in WS since 1981. Was approaching a 1/2 century.

In the pre-playoff era, they played each other six times between 1947-1956 and then again in 1963.

In 1963, Dodgers swept the Series. Dodgers bullpen pitched grand total of 0.2 Innings the entire series.

Three complete games, by Koufax (2) and Drysdale (1), and 8 1/3 innings by Johnny Podres. Yankees scored a total of four runs in four games.

This year, I’m going to take the OVER on whether Dodgers bullpen pitches one inning or more for the Series.

Craig- Story today that $251 CBT 2024 payroll Rangers plan to get under CBT tax level for 2025. Just another example of our earlier discussion.

MLB Trade Rumors @mlbtraderumors
The #Dodgers have interest in pursuing Juan Soto in free agency

The teams that win all the time go after great players. Teams like the Cubs brag about their "organizational positioning."

I wouldn't dare pay Soto what he'll cost.

Isn't it fair to assume you could get Alonso,Burnes,a legit closer, and maybe even Buehler for what he alone would cost?
