Johan Santana dropping off with 2.4% is inexcusable.
It's nothing new, though. Kevin Brown, Kenny Lofton, and Jim Edmonds (among others) were even more deserving to stay on the ballot, and they were 5 percented in their first year. Even guys like John Olerud and Robin Ventura deserved 10 years on the ballot...even though they're ultimately not Hall of Famers, they're close enough that their case could've changed as defensive metrics improve.
Hall of Fame voting (and really, the Hall of Fame itself) is kind of a joke at this point. It's not an especially meaningful honor anymore. It's mostly about what great players were most liked by reporters at this point.
