Two homers and a double for Eloy on Friday. He got back recently from injury and had been quiet.

Joel Sherman @Joelsherman1
Source: #Mets are getting 2 prospects Wahl and Toffey and international slot money for Familia

I don't know anything about Mets prospects, so I don't know if those guys are good, but it seems like the Britton market is set now. Actually, he should cost a little less given his recent injury history.

Toffey is a 23 year old third baseman at high A with .741 OPS (Cal League) # 17 on mlb list and Wahl is a 26 year old relief prospect.

Orioles Hangout is going to have a melt down if that is close to the return. They were turning their nose up at getting Amaya+ for him and I agree Britton should be less.

Wahl was a stud at Ole Miss...not sure he’s done much to enhance his prospecthood over the years...

Recently had Thoracic Outlet Surgery and was throwing 93-94 in the Spring down from 97-98 he was throwing previously out of relief.

Really kinda surprised that with Treinen and 9 games back that the A's were in the pursuit of Familia.

They gave up like the equivalent of Jason Vosler and Justin Hancock for him.  It is basically a free add.

I wonder if they've got a strong offer on the table for Treinen, and Familia is going to slide in after that.  Sounds like a Billy Beane'ish thing to do.

The A's are only 4 back in the wild card race, though, and they're the closest team to the fading Mariners for the second wild card.

They could also pull a Twins move and flip him before the deadline.

Anyone expecting Britton to go for less than Familia is setting themselves up for a big surprise.

I don't expect him to go for less because he has a better reputation (despite his injuries and ineffectiveness for most of the last two years), and because it seems like the Mets got much less than they should have for Familia.

But in theory, I think Familia should've gotten more than Britton will get. Familia is definitely more reliable health-wise at this point, and he's probably just a better pitcher too.

I don't think theory matters a whole lot, as you acknowledge.

But practice, it's not going to be close.  You've got elite teams with strong systems after Britton - Houston, LAD - and a desperate team, us.  Setting aside the question of why those teams would be interested in Britton and not Familia if Familia is supposedly the better pitcher, the mere fact that they are is going to drive up the price substantially.
