Freeman and Joey Votto, hitters who the Cubs have just faced during the last week, also remain kind of awesomely good skillful hitters, IMO.

Love/hate.  I love to watch their AB's, in a sense; but usually I only watch when they face the Cubs, so I hate/fear their AB's.

I have to say I love to watch Tommy La Stella AB's. too.  I know he's a crummy fielder, and has no power.  But man, just to watch a pure hitter hit, he's pretty fun.

The hitters have changed, but pitchers have gotten more nasty as well.  There are 19 starting pitchers who have an average fastball velocity that rounds up to 95 this year, those fastballs just aren't straight either.  The have movement.  For relievers the list goes to 64.  Expecting hitters to string together 3 hits to score a run seems more difficult that hitting a HR.

Edit:  I should say that is for qualified SP and RP.  The actual number is likely higher.

Make the balls and strike calls automated and we'll see a whole new level of hitting

The Torres trade I will probably dislike forever mainly because I blame Epstein for not preparing the team in the offseason before by signing a more reliable closer instead of having to use their top prospect (and more) to trade for a 2 month rental.  The way they handled the bullpen prior to this year slightly angers me to this day.

Or they could have just traded the a little better crap to the Reds and gotten Chapman cheap. At the time though Rondon was good.  I hated giving up Torres at the time and thought he was better than Frazier/Sheffield combo for Miller, but flags fly forever.

And Angel Hernandez wonders why he isn't an umpiring crew chief or works playoff games.

Another homer for Torres, his third straight game with one and fourth game out of five.

2-run single for Ohtani to break a 3-3 tie in the 9th. He then steals 2nd and scores on another hit.

When you're all-star caliber as a hitter and pitcher you're the best player in the sport, imo.

He is not even the best player on his team. Much less the best player in the sport.
