I don't think that the Cubs trajectory since 2016 is shocking in retrospect. They remained a good team with flaws, particularly lack of offensive consistency with poor contact ability. It is disappointing, however, that the high level of play seen in 2015 and 2016 fell off as much as it did. The current level of offensive ineptitude is likely just a short term problem, but the problems we have seen over the past few years will remain even when the current group gets back to "normal". The roster will need to be changed to achieve better balance between power, patience, and contact.
