Also Dusty was a man of his word here...

Quote
Dempster: Dusty called me up to the office in 2006 when we were really struggling as a team towards the end of the year. He asked me what my incentives were. I never had a manager do that in my life. I said, “Games finished.” He was bringing me in, in any game. As long as my arm was feeling OK, I was finishing the game.

He definitely piled up the games finished.

Angel Hernandez has gone MIA again.

This article and many like it appear in a number of news papers around the country.

https://theathletic.com/3617187/2022/09/21/angel-hernandez-lawsuit-overturned-calls/

They give a lot of details but nothing about why he is not currently working.

Zac Gallen with a dominant 8 IP against Dodgers tonight.

Gallen and Sandy Alcantara are #2 and #3 leaders in NL ERA (Julio Urias #1).

Cardinals traded away BOTH Alcantara and Gallen to the Marlins in the same deal, for two years of Marcell Ozuna, at the 2017 Winter meetings.

Yikes.

That might turn out to be their version of Brock for Broglio.

Wow. Did not know this.

Impossible to know how they'd have developed in the Stl org, but given the Cardinals' track record, have to imagine both Alcantarra and Gallen would have done well for the Turdbirds.

All this to say, Ozuna may now be my favorite non-Cub player in MLB.

Bill Plunkett
@billplunkettocr

#Dodgers Dave Roberts confirmed the obvious /inevitable — Craig Kimbrel won’t be closing games any more. Will look for other roles to use him in for rest of regular season. Wouldn’t speak to postseason

At this point, is Pujols reconsidering his decision to retire at the end of the year? He's not going to catch Bonds or Aaron, but he'd probably pass Babe Ruth if he played one more year.

Historically great players sometimes do fabulous things when they're really old.

Ted Williams had a 1096 OPS at age 41.  Ty Cobb batted .357 when he was 40.  Justin Verlander this season at age 39.  Many other examples.

Instead of making up stuff with no evidence whatsoever about Pujols, let's applaud and enjoy a special feat from a historically great player and class person.

LOL  Reb, seriously, lighten up; you're going to have a stroke.   Poking fun at Cardinals is a pastime for a number of us.

Thanks for reminding us of REAL heroes.   In Chicago, we compartmentalize the accomplishments of Sammy Sosa because we see evidence of his PED usage.  San Francisco still praises Bonds.  Isn't it interesting that the national media is quick to laud Judge's accomplishments and refer to him catching Ruth and in range of beating Maris' "record" of 61 home runs?  No mention of McGwire, Sosa, and Bonds.  But what does St. Louis do?  They name a bleacher section after Big Mac Land.  They bring him back briefly as a coach.  The links between LaRussa, Canseco, McGwire, and PED's has long been hinted at.  When a former teammate mentioned in a radio podcast that Albert might be getting help, he was quickly censored.

It's not that big a deal and a lot of us joke about such possibilities.  As far as I really know, Albert's clean.  But I might be making that up.

Wow, a 20-game winner.

Kyle Wright wins #20 on Saturday.  Nobody else has more than 17.

Well, Curt, I think your "joke" and fellow jokesters yucking it up maybe are not taking in the real fun and awe of Pujols accomplishment. A little sad if that's the case. Easy to throw around a PED "joke" and then say you don't really mean it but how about joining in with most everybody else around baseball who are amazed and thrilled about what he just did?  This has nothing to do with a Cubs-Cards rivalry.  It's a baseball story.  So, for those who love the game, it's a fun event. Join the fun!
