Long overdue for Scott Rolen. He really should've been a no doubter all along, IMO.

The video of him telling his parents is pretty touching.

Ramirez got 28% in 2020, 2021, 2022.

33% in 2023.

So, not much different in 2023.

If you are going to put in Scott Rolen in the Hall of Fame you mine as well put in Mark Grace in who had 407 more hits in his career in one less season, struck out 768 less times and was every bit the defender. Rolen hit .300 3 times, Grace did it 9 times.

Rolen is very similar to Ron Santo.  Both have 70 bWAR, similar OPS+, were outstanding defenders, and pose dilemma to HOF voters who have a tough time with 3B candidates.

Bill James ranks Santo #9 3B of all-time and Rolen #12—-which seems about right.

Mark Grace had 46 career bWAR—nowhere close to Rolen and Santo—and James ranks Grace #55 among all-time 1B.

If we want to complain about former Cubs getting short shrift among HOF voters, I would point to Stan Hack. Hack had 55 career bWAR, James ranks him #10 all-time 3B (a bit high, probably) but Hack never even reached 5% in HOF balloting and seems forgotten by the Veterans committees. Not quite a HOFer but a better candidate than Grace.

Grace was nowhere close to the defender that Rolen was. If he was, he'd have played 3B instead of 1B.

Also, Rolen had 10 seasons with 20 HR's or more. Grace had 0.

I loved Grace, and would be thrilled to see mid-90's-Grace as our 1Bman in 2023. But Rolen was always a significantly better player and should have been in the HOF a long time ago.

All I got out of that, tico, is that you're advocating for a left-handed third baseman.

Grace is a first ballot Cubs Hall of Famer but sadly not a Cooperstown Hall of Famer.

Congrats on a fine career Dexter!  Wouldn't have won a World Series without him.

Padres extend Darvish, 6 years, $108 million. He’s already 36, so that’s a pretty long contract for him.

Good luck with that.
