I used to hate the WBC because of how much hatred it stirred up between nations. Anyone remember Korea planting a flag on the pitcher's mound ater defeating Japan? Supposedly Ichiro went on an anti-Korean tirade in the clubhouse after that. All because the rosters are set based on nationality and not on where they're playing right now.
The Caribbean nations seem to be having so much fun with it, though, that I always get excited seeing them play. And I love seeing smaller countries like the Czech Republic make progress.
Incidentally, our guy Miles Mastrobuoni came within a few feet of hitting Italy's first-ever WBC homer, but it was caught at the track by Yoshida. Would have been a great moment for him.
