Disappointed they didn’t take Parada. Horton had a lot helium going into the draft.

if they are saving some money to over slot someone who would be a person they might be looking at with the next pick.

Callis says the Cubs got "the best college pitcher in the draft."

He also said there was a lot of "helium" about Cade Horton and Callis thought he might go 7 to 11.

We definitely need pitching, so I'm on board!  Sure hope they can develop him into something special!

He was f’ing electric against Ole Miss in the CWS.

I’m stunned, but I’m not upset with the pick…at all…

Tough to be upset about a potential #2 starter from the college ranks.

Law on Horton:

Nobody raised his stock in the last month of the amateur season than Cade Horton, who changed the shape of his breaking ball and went on a tear in the postseason with a two-pitch combo. He missed 2021 with Tommy John surgery, and is primarily a two-pitch guy with limited experience as a starter – he was a two-way guy, playing short and pitching in relief, until moving into Oklahoma’s rotation partway through this season. He could be just a very late bloomer, or this could be recency bias, favoring what we saw in the last six weeks over everything that came before. Horton is also a draft-eligible sophomore, giving him a lot of leverage to ask for a top-10 bonus, although I’m sure the Cubs will meet it.

Horton has risen from a injury-recovering reliever to a dominant starter in just a few months.  I believe that sometimes you can hit gold by picking someone like that.  I also believed that when they picked Hayden Simpson.  And Branden Little.

Reports are that the Rockies were taking him at #10 if he was on the board…

I am risk adverse. This seems like a ton of risk for #7 overall.

Risk adverse [sic] teams lose - a lot.
