at the 7th pick would have like something less risky but then the draft is always a risk

I hope we get Ben Joyce at #47.

If the Cubs take another reliever round Kantrovitz should be fired.

Kiley McDaniel linked them to Careen Whisenhunt in the second round.

Horton has some really good slider and fastball traits.

Hard to believe they passed on Lee for Horton, honestly.  An intriguing talent but taking a two-pitch guy with a limited track record of success considering the guys that were on the board there seems like a reach.

We'll find out, but I don't think drafting in that spot was the time to play that game. Lee seems like a no-brainer there.  But hey, maybe they were down on him for whatever reason.  Collier?  Parada?

On the plus side, we're likely to have multiple chances at high draft picks in the next few years.

Heh, even BN having trouble getting into their usual dlck-riding mode over this pick.  I'm sure by tomorrow Bert will have "come around" and started calling it the steal of the draft.

Horton probably won't go much under slot, if at all, since he has an extra year of eligibly left.  But it's hard to imagine the Cubs making this pick unless they thought they could get him under slot.  Very odd.

I would have liked a hitter, but people dumping on the pick are jumping the gun.

Horton’s fastball has characteristics that the Indians have prioritized in drafting.  The slider is nasty and is relatively new and the Cubs might be able to improve on it. They have been able to teach guys a Vulcan change up and while he didn’t use it much his current change up showed some decent characteristics.

Let’s see what the rest of draft looks like.

I wasn't dumping on the pick.  In my opinion, the Cubs drafts have gotten better each year since 2019, and I have no reason to think that I have more information about the draft than the Cubs Front Office has.

That being said, I would have taken Cam Collier.

Disappointing that there wasn't a player from Little Rock Bible College worth gam bling on this year.

That will never take the place of Slippery Rock Teachers College.
