If you get a chance to watch the “look back” at the ‘84 team that is currently airing on Marquee, I highly recommend it.

Basically a round table format, with Cey, Durham, Davis, Matthews, Sandberg, Sutcliffe, Bosley, Dernier, and Trout all there and swapping stories.

I loved that team. I was 16, and that was my first heartbreak. **** Steve Garvey.

The BBFL, this board's fantasy league, may have opening this coming year.  If interested, please email Curt at Fischerone@msn.com.  First come, first served.

Former Dodgers OF Al Ferrera recently died.

In 1965—the weekend after my birthday—went to see Cubs play at Dodger Stadium. My favorite pitcher Dick Ellsworth started for Cubs and took a no-hitter into bottom of the 8th inning, holding a 1-0 lead.

In bottom of 8th, Santo botched a grounder to open the inning and then Cubs botched a bunt getting nobody out. Another bunt and then Ferrara came up….and hit a 3-run homer which landed about 5 feet away from me in the bleachers. Very disappointing. One hitter and no earned runs for Ellsworth and a loss.

That’s my memory of Ferrara.

As I’ve mentioned, I exchanged a few emails with Ellsworth several years ago before he passed and mentioned this game, which he remembered of course. He had a bunch of tough losses at Dodger Stadium in his Cubs career.

Dodgers went on to win World Series that year——on the back of another great Koufax season.
