I don't usually do this, but here's are two questions for anyone who wants to participate:

(1) Aside from the money involved, if you could resign only one of Baez, Bryant and Rizzo, who would it be?

(2) If you could sign two of the three, who would you be most willing to let go?

Thanks for playing.

Ron, I think it’s a no-brainer, you let go of the guy who has trouble counting to three and who strikes out consistently.  You KEEP Bryant.

1. Bryant

2. Rizzo

In part because there are FAs available who can replace Baez.

But, how about re-signing all three.

Bryant has a .412 OPS in June and he was truly awful last year.  I suppose he makes the most sense to bring back but he's no sure thing at this point, between his long lapses in production and many nagging injuries.  How much money are you willing to commit to that gamble?

No money at all.  You offer market value to Bryant and let him say yes or no.  My guess is Bryant won’t go anywhere, his ego’s not that big, that’s an asset.  He came up a Cub, doesn’t like change. Plus he just hit a homer.

All them executives know that, all them big shots - all them dudes that sit in the fancy box seats with buxom women at their Rod Beck and call.  I’m in favor of one year contracts across the board.  Get rid of agents and all that.

I agree.

If we can only sign one at a reasonable price, I would choose Bryant.

If we can only sign two at a reasonable price, I would choose Bryant and Rizzo.

I would love to keep Baez also, if that were possible.

But under no circumstances should we allow any of them to go into free agency.

Of course, all this ignores the price that it would take to sign them, and what we would have to sacrifice to pay that price(s).  I think that in the long run, the most important player to retain is Contreras.  And when it comes to value, it may be better to sign Pederson than any of the other three, price and future budgets being taken into account.

Terrifying.  Maybe not far off, but terrifying.  I mean, it's only money and I'd rather Ricketts spend it there than on executive bonuses, but it's a huge gamble.

If the Cubs aren’t willing to spend on Bryant then there isn’t going to be a free agent worth spending on for a long, long time.
