I've never been quite sure he even knows where the rails are.

Padres won’t have the money to sign him. It would be a trillion dollars in Tatis, Machado, Soto. It would be one of the better outcomes for the Cubs.  Just to fit in in Soto’s salary they probably have to cut salary as well, if the farm has anything left the Cubs would seem to be the destination for that.

It's a bad outcome for the Cubs in the sense that they're the most interesting trade partner we have for Happ and Contreras, and maybe even a reliever.

Happ and Contreras only get interesting if you are taking back Hosmer’s contract.  If you don’t the top guys aren’t getting moved.

Reds get two Top 100 prospects including Pipeline #18.

The extra control season 2023 for Castillo is a big deal.

Sharma on the latest podcast said that he has heard that the emergence only Morel made Happ expendable.

Makes sense.  You don't want to have too many good players.

How does one prepare to be underwhelmed?  The longer this drags out, the more sure I am that our GM will take whatever scraps are offered to try to save face.

He waited until the last minute last year, and I don't believe he settled for scraps.
