Jeff, this is question from out of the context of this thread. But in terms of the impact of the shift, which kinds of hitters do you think will benefit most from no-shift rules? I don't know how to think about it.
*Schwarber, 125 GB in 577 AB per Fangraphs, with 39% GB rate.
*Rivas, 80 GB in 251 AB. Rivas would have prorate to 184 GB to Schwarbers 125 given Schwarber's 577 AB.
I've kinda been picturing the slow slugging lefty being the biggest beneficiary, the Schwarber and Rizzo type. But Scharber resolves so many PA via K/W/HR, and then so many of the others by balls in the air, that maybe no-shift won't benefit guys like that as substantially as the more contact-oriented GB-oriented Rivas types?
It should help lefties of all styles, though, that's for sure. If a ground-ball-avoiding guy like Schwarber still hits 125, for sure some of those are going to go for hits.
A stocky, slow lefty like Moises B might be especially benefited. I assume he projects as a pretty good contact hitter, if he's going to make it. Might be a lot easier for him to shoot balls past two infielders on the dirt compared to three infielders scattered variable deep on the grass.
