Ken Holtzman has passed away.

He was before my time at his peak, and before basic cable when he came back to the Cubs in ‘78-79…

I remember when he came up in 1965, after less than a season in the minors.  In 1966, he was well under .500, but with one of the worst Cubs teams in history.
'
But the most memorable year was 1967, when he was in the National Guard, and only got to pitch on weekends.  He went 9 and 0.

My wife and I went to Cincinnati to visit her newly married cousin, and the new husband and I went to see the Cubs, who were in town.  We purchased tickets from a scapler outside, and got seats in the second deck, directly behind home plate.  A good view to see Holtzman throw his second no hitter.
