Estrada makes his Myrtle debut, 2 innings.  Jaramillo too.

Fun to see some guys showing up.

Is Giambrone hurt or gone from the system?

The Iowa Cubs website shows him as on the "Temporary Inactive List".

Estrada returns after TJ surgery in August 2019.  Jaramillo has now pitched 5 innings for the Cubs since signing in July 2018.

Robert Stock gets a start tonight, first time this year.  Intersting.  Shutout into the 4th, before a 2-run homer.

Heyward is 2-2 with a HR thus far.

Craig, either DJ Herz is white hot or too good for low A.

He now has 20Ks in 12 IP and a 0.75 ERA (1.61 ERA for his 20-inning career).

ben, that was BEFORE tonight!  :):):)
-Now he's 29K/16IP, 3 hits, 7 walks.
-Last 3 starts, 22K/2BB/2H/11.2IP.

Hot indeed.  I'm curious how he's doing it?  I've seen some highlight clips that show the K's, and strike 3 usually looks to come on chase breaking balls.  But you don't get to 2-strike chase counts without getting to two strikes somehow.  So I assume he's using a good dose of fastballs earlier in counts, and throwing them for strikes without getting whacked.

In addition to the 9 strike outs in 4 innings, he also gave up 1 walk and zero hits.

Yes, it looks like he is too good for Low A.  But give him a couple more starts to get him stretched out beyond 4 innings.

Carraway got through his inning tonight on only 21 pitches and with only one walk.  He's pitched 8.1 innings now in 9 games, and has yet to allow a hit.  15K/11BB/0H/8.1IP.  5 of those walks came in a single wild outing.  Progress.  The stuff is there, that's obvious.

No harm in letting him stay there for a while.  The plate is the same distance in Myrtle as in South Bend, so his ability to practice locating his pitches doesn't matter much where he's at, I'd think.  Breaking-ball artists, the curve can come and go.  I'm fine with letting him see how consistently he can stack success there.  Given his lack of pitching experience, I also imagine they might be very, very, very careful with his workload and pitch-count this season.  I'd not be surprised if they keep him on a 4-5 inning limit and keep his pitch count more around 65 than 90?
