Jordan has two or more strike outs in 10 of 18 games this year; he has three or more strikes outs in 6 of 18 games.   On the positive side he only has one golden sombrero.

Stateside ... the Cubs had 3 short-season teams in 2019 but will have only one this year.  It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.  I could see a scenario where only two or three 2021 draftees play this summer (i.e.., only college senior signs) with the rest being off-roster preparing for September instructionals. Will the complex level team be composed of the San Diego quartet (well hopefully triplet as Santana could return to Myrtle Beach especially if the full-season Howard experiment fails), Apostel, R. Morel, E. Howard, and a few others or could Nwogu end up there too.

I'm not sure why the Cubs decided to only have 1 team.  My hunch is that they were concerned about having enough pitchers given roster limits (180), inning limits resulting from a mostly lost 2020, and injuries but cost and a desire to focus more on the hitting and pitching labs may have played a role.  Is there a benefit of doing much of the development behind closed doors?

Some scouts considered Hernandez the best prospect in the 2020 international class. The Cubs say he offers more upside than any international player they've signed in recent memory -- including Eloy Jimenez and Gleyber Torres in 2013. The recipient of a $3 million bonus out of the Dominican Republic, he draws constant physical comparisons to a young Alex Rodriguez and Manny Machado.

Hernandez has the tools to hit for average and power and could become a .300 hitter with 30 homers on an annual basis if everything comes together. He has a fluid right-handed swing with quality bat speed and also exhibits feel for the barrel and a mature approach. He has a track record of producing in game action and his projectable frame should allow him to add plenty of strength.

Hernandez presently has plus speed, though he might lose a half-step as he matures physically. Even if that happens, he has the athleticism and actions to remain at shortstop for the long term. His quickness and arm strength would allow him to play all over the field if needed and he'd have no problem fitting the offensive profile wherever he winds up.

Eno Sarris had a piece on this at The Athletic, if you’re a subscriber. Basically, spin efficiency is the % of the spin, typically backspin, that contributes to pitch movement. It’s a % of “good spin.”

Max Bain has a no-hitter through 6 for South Bend.  91 pitches, so he's probably not coming back out.

6 no-hit innings for Bain today.  3 walks, a couple more HBP, and a WP, so he's still not a control artist.  But he drops his ERA down below 5.  He's been kinda maybe getting better over some recent starts.  Also some action where he's been good for like 4 innings, then gives up a bundle in his final inning, or whatever.

Hunter Bigge making his 2001 and full-season debut.

It's "No-hitter Night" down on the Cubs farm.

Herz through 5 hitless for Myrtle Beach.

Thanks for the article.  Can some up enlighten me on the difference between spin rate and spin efficiency.

Spin is just how many times a ball rotates per minute.  A ball can spin on any axis and sometimes that axis doesn't help the pitch movement.  Spin efficiency is how much of the spin is doing something positive to the movement of the ball.  It could be back spin on a 4 seam fastball which means the pitch won't drop as much as the hitter expects it too.  Spin/spin efficiency also effect curve, sliders, change ups, splitters, 2 seamers, etc...  Curves/sliders you want high spin/high efficiency, where change ups, splitters/2 seamers you want low spin/high spin efficiency.
