Well, it's stunning, but on the other hand the team is in cap hell thanks to Bettman and having so many good players early on. In other times they may have picked up another Cup or two. Now just trying to survive. And Hossa might be done which makes things worse.

Hawks trade Hjalmarsson as well.  I don't mind either move.  Hjalmarsson is terrific, but has a lot of mileage with all of the blocked shots he has taken.  Getting younger there is fine.  Panarin is pretty one dimensional (although he's a great scorer), and they missed Saad's physical presence.

Saad's not all that physical. More than Panarin but Panarin is a supreme offensive talent. Only two years on his contract though.

Panarin is overrated, IMO.  He's a serious defensive liability.

So is Kane. Top-10 offensive talents don't come around every day.

We def sold at .50 on butler.

I think if Cavs were given more time, they would have come up with a much better package for butler.

Listening to Chicago radio this was by far the best offer for Butler. The original TWolves offer was Rubio, Dunn and the #7. Boston was only willing to offer their pick next year.

Blackhawks are rumored to be trying to trade up in the first round and get TJ Oshie to play with Kane.

The Bulls did not have to trade Butler right now. You don't take a garbage offer when you don't need to. In fact, they didn't have to trade Butler at all.

GarPax judged that Butler was not a guy to try to build a Championship team around, so back to the drawing board.

The Bulls also didn't want a half season of Butler because they want to tank for top pick next year. The idea behind rebuilding is to be bad enough to get top talent several years in a row in the draft. The problem continues to be the guys picking that talent.
