I find myself in the altogether unfamiliar position of being the optimist.
I recognize that there is tremendous downside potential for the club. Hendricks collapsing. Suzuki busting. Bad middle up-the-middle defense. No obvious closer.
But I also see some positives. Very good possibility to avoid some of the complete black holes that we had last season (Bote, Sogard, Joc, the brutal backup catching corps, etc.). Schwindel and Wisdom disappear like dandelion spores? Villar and Rivas should be able to step in and be anti-awful. I expect an offense that will be less powerful and less explosive, but perhaps more consistent (Hi, br!). You don't like this year's rotation? No Davies, Williams, or the corpse of Jake Arrieta.
Will there be a sell-off? Yes, I'm sure. I expect it to be mostly bullpen pieces, which is where we should be able to backfill relatively effectively (Ueckert, Leeper).
