There is no way we can entirely prevent insane people from performing crimes of this nature.  This school murder wasn't even the worst in America's history.

In 1927 a man killed 28 children and 7 adults in a school in Michigan.

The weapon - dynamite.

I don't think I mentioned this to everyone here but I finally finished my book and published it on Amazon.  It is available on the PC or Kindle.  Here is the link for anyone interested.  I have ten good reviews so far but I need more to get a better algorithm from Amazon for promoting it.  I have it up currently for only 99 cents.   Here is the link, http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009NFI7KI  The title is Quickened, by Robert J. Fluegel.

The discussion can't be just about guns.  It has to include how we handle our mentally ill.  How we value life, from conception to the elderly.  How do we manage violence in our video gaming, movies, and sports.  This is a cultural illness.  I don't own a gun...well, except for my dad's old .22 rifle that hasn't been fired in 50 years...and I don't plan on going out and buying one, so, other than the threat to liberties, I don't care what they do with gun control, but I do fear greatly if our elitist leaders think controlling guns is the big answer, this is going to happen over and over and over again.

Thanks Curt, it was a fun process to go through.  I am writing book 2 at light speed comparatively.

A metal detector wouldn't have helped here though.

Gun free zones for schools also did not work, and in fact was counterproductive.

Public policy is unfortunately seldom determined based on what works.

It is a YA Fantasy series but I have mostly had adults read it so far and they have really liked it as well.  This is the description I wrote that would be a lot like the inside cover flap.  "Ever since the day his father disappeared Tommy Travers has buried himself in his books.  School? Friends? Girls?  No time for any of them.  If he could step inside those books he would gladly leave the world behind.  When he turns fifteen Tommy discovers he has a gift, his greatest wish has come true.  He is pulled inside a book and has become the lead character.  The problem is, reading about a battle and fighting for your life are as different as different can be.  Tommy must learn quick to control his gift or he will end up stabbed or speared or perhaps worse yet, married!"

I have 6 books outlined for the series.  I'm not thinking of making it big but it is a very fulfilling hobby.  It's pretty awesome having people read and like your work.

Can hardly wait for the Christmas movies: Zero Dark Thirty, Djamgo Unchained, and Jack Reacher.  All movies with guns and shooting and violence and killing.  Nothing wrong with our ******* culture, I tell ya.

I will be buying it today! I've been trying to find a new book to read for my upcoming flights, this will be perfect!

Really cool Robb, I've always wanted to write but I don't have the attention span to finish a story. What an accomplishment!

I watch all kinds of movies.  Horror, fantasy, action, ultra violent action (smokin' aces for example), westerns, war, pron...

After watching one I never wanted to kill coeds, sword fight a dragon, rob a bank guns-a-blazin', have a pistol duel, sniper an enemy, ...., ummm...  well that last catagory might have made me do a thing or two after watching it...
