I don't think the telephone line can compete with the cable line.  It's the difference between a pencil lead and a sewer pipe.  And I agree with tico, using your phone as a hotspot works beautifully, but it can be expensive once you reach your monthly allotment for data.

Not sure what kind of news coverage Atlanta is getting, but it's about 3:00 am and I'm in hour 15 of my commute home.  Every major road is gridlocked because they're basically ice skating rinks.  It's awesome.

What?!?! Why commute home in the first place at that rate?! Crazy!

Is this just southerners being southerners when it comes to winter driving conditions, or are there serious problems?

Well, when I left at lunch time, I thought I was beating the crowd.  The problem was that everyone (including schools) left at once, which meant the roads were over capacity and they couldn't get through to clearance the roads.

The other problem is that it was 60 degrees and sunny yesterday, so all the snow melted when it hit the pavement.  But it's about 15 degrees now, so it re-froze very quickly.  And with no traffic moving to keep it slushy, it immediately turned to sheets of ice.

I almost stopped at 9:00 right before I got on I-285, but I stubbornly continued home because I have a dog who needs food.  So when 285 turned to complete gridlock around 9:30, I just ended up stuck on this on ramp.

Excuse me if I ramble, I'm pretty tired at this point.

I was talking to someone last night who was driving back from Birmingham, and he said it was also a closter*#@& over there.

read on Twitter that Atlanta papers should have gone with the headline: "Waiting for GA D.O.T."

My commute ended up being over 21 hours.  I was one of the last ones to get off the road in the areas I was driving, but I heard it's still a mess in some other places around the city.

I just had really bad timing...if I'd left work 15 minutes earlier, I would've beat enough of the traffic to get home pretty quickly.  And if I'd been 15 minutes later, I would've picked a different route.  It would've taken me several hours either way...but at least I wouldn't have spent the night on the side of the road conserving 1/8 a tank of gas by only running the heat for about 5 minutes an hour.

That it was referred to as "brilliant" must have prompted that post.

Good reviews.  Looks like a winner.  I'm gonna get it.  Dave -- did you enjoy Prophet of the Sandlots?

Scoop -- You have got to get a hold of some Patricia Highsmith.  Now there's a woman writer for ya.  And David Goodis -- the absolute king of noir.  Library of America has a five novel collection of his and it is just outstanding stuff.
