I asked recently if anyone knew how HarryLives was doing, since he had not posted since May.  I also sent him a message directly in case he is still around, just not around here.

I got the following back from him, and he has told me he does not mind if I share it with the list.  (And considering how many here take pride in announcing they have me on Ignore, someone who does not might want to cut and paste this as an update on his status, without including my name since that obviously is simply too upsetting for some to deal with.)

I’ve just moved on to other priorities in life, jes. I just haven’t bothered to tune in much AT ALL this season(2-3 games)..and I doubt I will ever return to the forums. Just don’t feel I have much to contribute, even gave up my fantasy team. Focusing much more on my job and family issues and just spending more time doing stuff to better myself. My parents moved to South Carolina two years ago, my brother recently moved to Denver. I just want to make sure I’m on firm financial and physical footing right now I have neither, but all will work out.

There is actually a labor shortage in NW North Dakota and NE Montana.  Many of the fast food places have taken to bringing in foreigners to work here, as they can't get any local people to take those jobs.  Arby's has a ton of Asians working there, McDonalds has brought in a bunch of Jamaicans.

Williston, ND, which is the center of the oil boom has roughly doubled in size in the last two years.  The majority of those people are living in temporary housing - "man camps."

Williston used to have the world's longest bar.  I think it was over 50 yards long.

Every place has to be famous for something.

Does anybody know who might be a receptive person in the cubs organization to possibly get a couple items donated for a silent auction?  My uncle was diagnosed with bone cancer earlier this year and has a bone marrow transplant coming up this week.  We will know in a couple weeks if it takes or not but in the mean time we are trying to hold a benefit and silent auction for him.  He has followed the cubs for years and I was hoping to maybe get an item or 2 donated to help raise funds.  Thanks in advance.

With all these organizations, it's kind of hit and miss.  Best bet is if you can approach someone on the team, in the home office, or otherwise connected directly.  Next best is to write a letter and hope it reaches the right parties.

You might try a letter to Kerry Wood, explaining the situation, and asking him to pass the letter on to someone in the organization.  He seems to be strongly in favor of charitable activities, and might pass it on to the right person,.
