The other day Cubs radio played a recording of Harry singing the seventh inning stretch Take Me Out To The Ballgame in the bottom of the seventh.  I’ve been trying to understand why it sounds so good, even though Harry is not really a singer.  The answer is he sings behind the beat.  He’s on beat but he sings behind it.  Johnny Cash does that.  Billie Holiday is famous for that.

You don’t leave 16 long guns and a thousand rounds of ammunition in a hotel room without leaving a Do Not Disturb sign on your door.  Or maybe the maid smelled something funny.  At any rate God bless her.  Can you imagine a mass shooting at the All Star Game?  I can’t, it’s sickening to contemplate.

Digesting the Cubs in 2021 thread, most of which is over my head, but exciting to read, I’m reminded of the final lyric in Dylan’s One Too Many Mornings. —  You are right from your side / And I’m right from mine / We’re both just one too many mornings / And a thousand miles behind.  — Man, Dylan does a live solo performance of that song back in ‘65 or so, and it’s one of the supreme examples of singing behind the beat.  The singer is on beat, but he’s behind it.  Dylan was a terrific singer back then, just full of nuance.  So, we’re back to Wait Until Next Year . . . or maybe just a couple of years.

Dog- Think you’ll enjoy link below of Dylan singing Chimes of Freedom at, I believe, Newport Folk Festival July 1964. A GREAT vocal performance and a sense of joy and exuberance by a very gifted young man. Note last couple minutes when Peter Yarrow take stage for announcements and audience just wants more Dylan! Believe Dylan later returned for encore and performed With God On Our Side, with Baez (a good shortstop for her day).

Of course, the next year at Newport 1965, Dylan went electric and was booed off the stage.

Kind of like Theo and Jed and what have you done for me lately.

Reb, is that when Pete Seeger unplugged the amplifiers?  Thanks for the link.  I totally understand how poor Patti Smith forgot those lyrics in Oslo.  It was touching to see.  These days Dylan’s bootleg early stuff, mostly live, and solo, sounds very good.  He’s a better than average guitar player, the harmonica can be annoying, but the dip and turn of those early performances and his sense of timing are great.  Let’s hear that song again, you say to yourself.

Dog, think the Seeger legend about 1965 Newport is mostly myth, although true that Pete didn’t care much for the sound system that day.

Oh.  Pete did a song on that tribute album, which is quite good in spots, so there ended up I think with no hard feelings.  Yes, now I remember the title - Chimes of Freedom (of course) a three disc package with some super covers by a lot of known artists.  I have a couple early albums by Joan (the shortstop) that are still listened to, but every chance I get I like to tout this gal Gillian Welch.  I think she is the cat’s meow.

TCM has a message board sort of similar to this.  My question is who makes the decision to delete a post?  I’m assuming that if a poster hit report to moderator that would alert a second party.  I’m also assuming, like this board, there is more than one moderator.  I want to have a little chat with this fellow, is there a way to find out who he/she is?

Dave23 is the main board moderator.  I have administrative power, as does mO, Chris Lewis, and a couple others.   As for me, it's been a long time since I've deleted a post.  I doubt it happens often and when it does, it is probably an accident.
