Maddon talking about PROCESS again---this time poor umpiring process.

Tonight was a classic example of the Human Element at work.  The umpires met in huddle, conferred, and *then* got it wrong.  A bunch of good guys trying to do the right thing, but they made it worse.  Get it right.  And automate the strike zone.

Funny thing is that the replay is up on the big screen and everybody in the park can see the truth---but the Deciders aren't supposed to look.

And, the ump that convinced the other umps is 100 feet away from the actual play.

Something wrong with that, somewhere.

At least Joe didn't run out of the clubhouse in his jockstrap.

According to Coolstandings Fangraphs, Cubs have gone from 5.4%, before tonight, to 11% to win NLCS

Baby Steps..

Tommy Lasorda once said--when Dodgers were down big in a series--that the other club still had to win a WHOLE ballgame.

Not sure what WHOLE added there, but made it seem more doable for the Dodgers.

So, remember, Dodgers still need a WHOLE ballgame.

Not Dead Yet.

Maddon asked post-game about the Davis non-bunt.

Said "he [Davis] doesn't like to bunt."

That simple. Perhaps Davis feels it's dangerous, whatever, doesn't work on it. Rarely would he ever be in a bunt situation of course.

In any event, at some point in the past, Davis must have told Maddon he doesn't want to bunt---precisely the kind of thing a fan would not know.

Always a good idea to be a little humble about stuff that we're not privy to. Don't know what we don't know.

On that, following Davis's non-bunt, Almora got a single, which did not score a run.

*If* Davis had the capacity to bunt, successfully, Almora's hit would have probably produced a run had the baserunner started on 2nd instead of 1st.

Heh heh, so *if* Davis had the capacity to bunt, it probably would have been wise to do so even if he doesn't like to.

Presumably not quite like that:  Davis doesn't "like" to bunt because he stinks at it, and is scared to lean over and get his hands out etc..  So probably not "liking" to do it correlates to not having capacity amd not having very favorable odds of executing successfully.

Not "wanting" to bunt sort of destroys the image of Davis is a ballsy guy, to my mind.

Trying to get a hit as a pitcher who is almost never at the plate when you can bunt instead seems pretty ballsy, if not rational, to me.
