The fan who caught Justin Turner's walkoff homer in L.A. also snared Javy Baez' second homer Wednesday night

"I'm not gonna sit here and bang on umpires. ... But that can't happen. The process was horrible," Maddon said. "To have that changed -- if Granderson hits the next pitch out, I might come running out of the clubhouse in my jockstrap."

Oh Boy...I HOPE THEY CHANGE that process!!!

"After looking at it (on replay afterward), I was dead wrong," plate umpire Jim Wolf said. "I talked myself into the whole thing."

That's all well and good, but it doesn't help if the miscue impacts the game.  Don't apologize after the fact - don't screw it up in the first place.

When the umps mess up, it's a good thing that they admit that later.

Obviously, better not to mess up, but always good to admit an error.  Better for everything going forward.

Agree.  "Don't make mistakes" isn't realistic.  "We did what we were supposed to do, and we still got it wrong" is a path towards "this is too hard for a human to get right," which leads to "this should be subject to review/automated."

At least in the post-season, think maybe a good idea to have expanded replay for some things currently not reviewable in the regular season. Already give an extra review challenge to managers, so replay rules already different in post-season.

When umps confer and not very sure about the correct call, why not give them discretion to ask for review help?  As mentioned yesterday, kind of nutty that umps not supposed to look up at the video board, while they're conferring, to see what everybody else can see---at the ballpark and at home.

If Granderson hit a homer on the next pitch and ended the series, this would have been a historic umpire error that would be remembered for a very long time.  So, MLB should consider that and do something different so this kind of mistake doesn't happen again in post-season.

How about "don't make mistakes that are so egregious that they rank among the most inexplicable umpiring decisions in memory?"

Don't see why they can't use replay in that situation.

Like the lineup.
1.  Jay's been kind of cold anyway, let him sit.
2.  With Baez getting a couple of hits yesterday, and with Heyward sitting, that lineup doesn't include any non-pitcher auto-outs.
3.  Assuming Rizzo and Bryant don't qualify....!  :)
4.  Lets go get some hits and runs and HR's!

9 pitch walk to start the game.  Not what the Cubs needed.

RBI double for Bellinger, goes to third on the throw home.   Cubs down 1-0, still only one out and Quintana has already thrown 20 pitches.
