7-0. Terrible game for the Cubs. Bad hitting, bad defense, bad pitching.

5 pitch inning for Ziegler in the 7th. One of the worst games the Cubs have played all year...and the Diamondbacks basically gave up before the game even started.

Cubs run differential is about even in the second half--they've been mediocre for a while. They could still lose the division to the Brewers.

Ray has given up 6 runs his last 5 outing prior to this so this isn't just the Cubs offense.

I’m not blaming Contreras, but I agree it makes no sense to change the routine when Hamels is in a massive groove. Not in a game that still matters.

If not for a soft liner by Russell in the 3rd inning, the Cubs would've been no hit tonight. This offense just isn't that good.

Apparently some friction between upper management and Joe over his handling of the pitchers.  Interesting.

What prompted this?  Any links or source for why you think this?

Sharma piece from the Athletic which I can't link because I'm not a subscriber. But he tweeted about it and a couple other sites referenced it.

I think this is the article, written by Patrick Mooney:

https://theathletic.com/536981/2018/09/20/why-theo-epstein-still-thinks-this-cubs-bullpen-has-what-it-takes-to-win-in-october/

EDIT: Correct link: https://theathletic.com/535918/2018/09/19/a-look-at-the-theo-maddon-dynamics-in-the-brandon-morrow-shutdown/

It's mainly about friction over Morrow's use...which I don't really buy. Morrow has been hurt almost every year of his career. It was a calculated risk to sign him--he was as good as any reliever in the game last year, so it's reasonable to take a chance on him at the right price. Morrow had about a 75% chance of getting hurt this year no matter how he was used.

The Strop injury, though...that was 100% Joe's fault.

Mooney had 2 other articles that delt more with Marrow. It didn’t seem to be a huge deal. Should Marrow have pitched in the Mets game? No. Was it the cause of the injury?  Maybe. Is he fragile? Yes. Will the handle him with more strict rules next year year? Yes.
