This team used to have an offense. Am I not correct about that?

Gotta wonder if he isn't a Cardinal mole.

With Rizzo on first, Contreras comes back from a close call on a checked swing to draw a walk, then Schwarber doubles them both in to make it 4-0.

Hamilton pinch-runs for Schwarber.  Going back to the dugout, he's all smiles, so Ross must be happy with him.

Bote plunks a broken-bat single to left and Hamilton comes in to score.

J-Hey continues the two-out offensive explosion with another hit; Bote goes to third.

Tropeano coming in to pitch.

And KC has tied their game with the Cardinals; good news.

LOL, Jeffress giving up at-em rockets.  Story of his smoke and mirrors season.

Now a home run-length foul.

Why wouldn't you give Kimbrel an inning here?  He's been good lately and he's pitched once in 10 days.

I think Ross was going to give him the 9th to save, but then the Cubs broke it open.  He's been pitching the 8th in close games with leads; but with 2-0 lead Ross was instead warming Jeffress to pitch the 8th.  I assume if the Cubs hadn't scored the extra 3 runs with two outs in top 8th, it would have been Kimbrel to save the 9th had it stayed 2-0.  Maybe tomorrow!  :)

Cubs win; KC has taken the lead on St. Louis in the late innings.  Hope they hold on.

Again - once in ten days.  Why not get him an inning?

As Deeg notes, another great game for Cubs bullpen with three hitless/scoreless innings and, by far, best bullpen ERA in the majors for September so far.

Keep using Jeffess in high leverage spots until his luck runs out.  A winning strategy.

It's not as if you're not going to use Jeffress in late-inning situations, but refusing to acknowledge just how lucky he's been is baffling.  And if you're going to pay Kimbrel $20 million and not use him as closer when he's throwing the ball the best he has since the first half of the '18 season, what point is there in pretending you have any trust in him at all?

Speculation is that Kimbrel is now the closer and last night's game didn't provide an opportunity for him to close.
