Hughes comes in and shuts the Marlins down; Cubs win.

First win in a very long time for Alzolay, who pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Sampson, who himself had another good outing.

The Cubs actually got on a winning streak right when Quade took over, and early the next season, when they were losing again, there was an on-screen graphic saying that Quade had a .650 winning percentage as Cubs manager.  I thought it was a typo until I remembered that they had won a lot while playing out the string the year before.

That was quite a nice win last night.  Good synergy between Sampson getting relatively soft contact and really strong defense.  Great to see Alzolay looking solid in a multiple inning outing.  And Quiroz with an outstanding game.

Franmil Reyes pinch hit for by Alfonso Rivas.  I believe this is the point where you announce your retirement from professional baseball.

A two-out double is left on base as Thompson strikes Groshans out to end the game.  Cubs win!
