I saw Casey McGehee's name floating around Twitter earlier today.  Perhaps he might be an option, especially since our in-house 3B's are both left handed?

Granted he's been a lousy hitter for two years in a row, but just about everyone else at 3B is a lousy hitter at this point it seems.

Eh, McGehee just isn't very good.  He's as much a butcher defensively as Reynolds, but he has Stewart's offense. 

They might as well go in with Stewart and Valbuena unless they can get someone who is a true upgrade.  No point in bringing in another .650-.700 OPS guy who probably doesn't play defense as well as either of the guys we already have.

Probably true.  I'm kind of like you at this point, I think I'm just as content going into the season with Stewart and Valbuena as anyone else.  At least they play defense, and maybe one of them will be anti-awful with the bat.

Maybe.  This is a guy who really needs to pitch, though.  He's only had 10 IP over the past two seasons, so if he's healthy enough to pitch, it'd really be doing him a big disservice developmentally to hide him on the DL with some phatom injury.

Hoyer seems to be pretty confident that he can be a real contributor this year, so there may not be much need in hiding him.

So I guess unless Soriano is traded and they surprise us with a big bat, we have the starting lineup.  I still wish they'd sell high on Barney and try to get a major league hitter at second base, but that's not going to happen.  Pretty disappointing that they couldn't come up with anyone with even a little bit of potential to be a long term solution with Castro, Rizzo, and maybe Castillo.

Out of the guys available, Stewart was definitely my preferred option. It's fun dreaming up scenarios of guys like Olt, but being more practical, Stewart is the best if what's around. Admittedly, that's not saying much.

As bad as the 3B market is, the best Stewart could do is a non-guaranteed deal?  That's kind of odd.
