That's too bad about Wood.  Lots of ways to look at it.  He's got a better chance to get a ring elsewhere.  A team as bad as ours doesn't need a good set-up man, at least one that costs as much as he's worth.  And, even though he is often depicted as a great teammate and a good model, perhaps Theocracy feels that it's part of the housecleaning...get rid of as much of the old Cubs as you can. 

What I fear the most is that they get rid of too many of the guys we like to cheer for, fewer seats are sold, and when they need the cash...it won't be there.  But it ain't my money.

If we released Soriano, are we on the hook for the whole 18M, or 18M less whatever another team signs him for?  I don't remember how that works.

You know, as much as we want him gone, there might be two or three teams interested in going two or three mil in a bidding war.  It might be worth the g amble.

Of course, they could DFA somebody and gain themselves, what, 72 hours to make a move with him?

There's just not going to be much of a market for Soriano...there are still plenty of mediocre guys who could DH or play the outfield on the market that would cost nothing but money and would be available for one year: Hawpe, Nady, Burrell, Damon, Gomes, Ibanez, Ludwick, Scott, Spilborghs, Ordonez, Ross, Vlad, Matsui, even Manny. 

Jeff Bianchi is likely to get waived.

That Maholm deal is a steal.
