Buster Onley's podcast on Friday had an interesting interview with Bryant and Rizzo at the end, the beginning dealt with Kang's injury and it was a good listen as well.

Assuming that the Cubs are just as good as the teams they play, here are the odds of going to the world series.

Winning the single game playoff - 50 percent.

Winning the single game playoff and winning the first playoff series - 25 percent.

Winning the single game playoff and winning the two playoff series - 12.5 percent.

In other words, assuming that the Cubs are as good as the others, the odds are 7 to 1 that they will not play in the world series this year.

The odds of their winning the world series are 15 to 1 against them.

With Castro hitting again (and playing a pretty good 2B) and Baez looking like he could be a good offensive player (as well as very good defensively at 3 infield positions), the Cubs have a really dangerous lineup, especially if Soler gets on a roll.  With Montero in the lineup, there could be a solid threat in 8 spots of the lineup.

I mentioned Cahill in another post.  I really think the Cubs should stretch him out into a starter.  Right now, I'd rather let Cahill take the ball in a playoff game than any of the 3 Hs.

Rodney also looks like he is on the cusp of being very good.  If he could just control his fastball a little better.  His change up is still deadly.

Yeah, Cubs not odds on favorite to win WS. Think some here have been so worried about COMPROMISING THE FUTURE that it must be a shock to realize Cubs actually have legit shot at World Series RIGHT NOW. Just try to enjoy it. Next year will still come.

Yeah, it turns out the Cubs are virtually certain to be in the playoffs and are playing well enough and with enough confidence to have a legitimate shot at going very deep in the playoffs (fingers and toes crossed).  Without compromising the future.  Not even one iota.   ;)

I'm just awestruck at how quickly this team has come together.  I guess as manager of the low budget Rays, Maddon perfected the ability to take a bunch of young guys and get them to quickly learn how to become winners.  Man has that skill paid off for the Cubs in spades.

You missed the point.  Those who were so worried about compromising the future felt that it was not necessary to do so in order to have a legitimate shot this year.  And they were right.  The future was not compromised, and they, as you say, have a legitimate shot at the world series RIGHT NOW.

It would have been foolish to trade Castro or Baez in order to increase their odds from 15 to 1 against down to 14 to 1 against.
