Tim Lincecum has possibly thrown his last pitch for the Giants
Tim Lincecum will miss the rest of the season due to a hip injury, and his time with the Giants may have come to an end.

Lincecum is getting surgery for a degenerative hip condition doctors say may have been causing his loss in velocity, and his contract expires this year.

Would anyone else be interested in the Cubs making a real effort to sign him?

Depends upon the amount and duration of the contract.

I think the signing of Baker was a good attempt, but a one year contract just wasn't long enough.  I don't know the rehabilitation time for this kind of injury, but if they could get a reasonable cost contract for a year longer than the estimated rehab time, I think it would be a good idea.  But would he be willing to sign a two year, 5 million dollar contract?

Curt, Lincecum is getting surgery for a degenerative hip condition. Want him next season or not?

Does he still smoke pot? If not, maybe that's why his health has went down the tubes. (I know that's my problem ;D )

Oh, I saw that Lincecum is having serious surgery and is also going FA.  I think you could gamble with a big performance contract.

CCO had an interesting summary piece

-Edwards is expected to be called up for the Cards series
-The Cubs aren't going to catch Schwarber any more this season because they are worried the rib strain could become an oblique injury if he catches
-Maddon wants a 3rd catcher for Sept so Teagarden is likely coming back

Good opportunity for Olt with WSox. Sox at .621 team OPS at 3B---more than 100 points below AL 3B team average.

Obviously, turned out Olt had zero trade value but good to see Cubs evidently didn't nickel-and-dime anybody and Olt gets placed where he has a shot. Think he has a chance to have a big league career going forward.

I wonder if Arrieta's performance this year has started to persuade anyone here that it indeed is possible to get a true ace pitcher who was not a top drat pick....
