Regarding Rizzo's MVP case, he's actually contributed the most to his team winning games, according to WPA. WPA is a stat that basically measure's a players contribution in it's context. Hitting a grand slam in a game where your team is already up 10 runs is not the same thing as hitting a grand slam when your team is down 3 runs. WPA takes that context into consideration, and Rizzo has the highest WPA in baseball this year.

It appears to be official ESPN policy that all of their talking heads promote Cespedes' candidacy.

The talking heads are in New York.  New York media is quite understandably going to talk him up, meaning the talking heads are bound to be influenced by it.

Out of 84 qualified starters in MLB this year, Dan Haren started today #80 in fWAR.  And with today's outing, he'll probably fall another spot or two.

Just end that experiment and go back to Richard or Wood.

We're not supposed to be talking about next year.  But given the other qualities on the team, the badness of our 5th starter is kind of ideal opportunity to upgrade.  Won't be too hard to acquire somebody significantly better than what Haren/Wada/Richard/Beeler have been.

I don't think we will lose anyone this winter unless we win the World Series.  But whenever we do, Hoyer and McLeod will be swamped with offers that they would be foolish to refuse.

Soler's going to play down the stretch but will he be on the playoff roster? Does he get starts? He was starting to produce before going down but not sure where he fits in at the moment.

I can't imagine them leaving Soler off the playoff roster.  Their starting OF mix will be Coghlan, Fowler, Jackson, Soler.  Their 3B/SS/2B starting mix will be Bryant, Baez, Russell, and Castro.  Bryant, Russell, and Fowler play just about every game.  Maddon can mix and match with the others.
