Bryant now slugging .505, first time over .500 since April 24.

Bryant slugging over .600 since August 1.

Tommy LaStella is hitting .288 with .351 OBP and .793 OPS.  Small sample, but I think this is sort of the profile that they were looking for when they traded for him.  6K/5BB, a different kind of guy from most of the lineup.  His recent run of pinch hits is weird, I don't remember a Cub pinch hitter getting so many in such a cluster.  LaStella is just a spot player now, but with lots of club-control left, I could see him being a nice little bench fixture for a while. 

Also nice to see Soler getting some hits when he plays, and some HR's.  Got a chance to be really good hitter, if he can get some of his hard contact into the air enough to get over the wall.

Pedro Alvarez hit a 3-run, 2-out bomb in the 8th at Colorado to enable Bucs to beat Rox, 5-4.

4-game sweep in Colorado really hurts our chances of hosting WC, but oh well.  We will still have to beat Cole on whatever field.  (unless, somehow, they overtake the Cards)

I now have an even stronger (highly personal) desire for the Cubs to host the Wild Card game.  I just learned that I will have an opportunity to purchase four playoff tickets (through the online lottery that was held) on Monday.  Go Cubs!

Losing yesterday took the fun out of clinching a spot.

It feels empty. Good but not as exciting.

I've been curious about how this works...did it say anything about if you will be eligible for future drawings if the Cubs go further? I couldn't find anything about that in the website.

The email I received said I can purchase up to four tickets, divided between a home Wild Card playoff game and two home NLDS games.  So my intention is to purchase two for the home Wild Card game, if there is one, and one each for the two potential home NLDS games.

If you are not selected for the opportunity to purchase tickets for this round, then my understanding is you are automatically eligible for a subsequent drawing for a later round (if there is a later round for the Cubs).

I like clinching this way.  No on-field celebration; save that for when they advance.
