If you read Chris's link, there is also a story on Sveum at the site that yields this about our catching coach (recently discussed in the farm topic)...

Sveum is also tight with Borzello, a central figure in breaking down video, analyzing data and putting together scouting reports that highlight hitters’ weaknesses and lay out how to pitch away from slugging percentage.

Very nice to have Hendricks with a really good game.  I wonder if his stuff benefits from unfamiliarity?  Division teams have seen his change a lot of times, does that perhaps help them adapt to it somewhat?  But Kansas City, a little tougher?  Or just a function of him pitching really well, and having his command sharp? 

A lot of average pitchers can pitch very, very well on their sharp days when things are working.  Sometimes playoff adrenaline brings out their best, sometimes it works against optimal command.

I believe J.D. commented last night that Hendricks is harder to hit when hitters are unfamiliar with him.  But he also noted that he was doing a much better job of commanding his pitches, specifically keeping them down in (and below) the strikezone.  After his two walks in the first inning, he was very, very good.

Rodney was a great acquisition.  Their success with these types of reclamation projects has been really good overall.

Wouldn't it be great if someday Cardinals fans would bitch ". . . that bastard Bosio will just get somebody off the scrap heap and turn him into a shutdown reliever again."

The way Jake Arrieta has thrown the ball this year — especially in the second half — has ended any discussion about who the Cubs #1 starter is. Arrieta has propelled himself into the discussion...

Thanks for the link, Reb.  Very intriguing article.  I do sometime wonder whether a guy like Hendricks could become a real asset at a time when players are increasingly used to facing really hard throwing pitchers (so long as he is executing well).

Cahill has been outstanding too.  Is he under our control next year?  I'd really like to see him get a chance to start again.  He was so good for the A's a fouple of years ago and he seems to have found something that works again since he joined the Cubs.  Let him be part of the 5th starter conpetition.

Think has gone mostly unnoticed, but Fowler having his worst month of the season. September OPS is .624---worse than months earlier in season when some were thinking about getting a lefty platoon partner for him.

Guess he'll bounce back eventually if Cubs can keep it going for awhile.

Cameron piece concludes with him wondering if Doug Fister could be a comp for Hendricks.  Interesting because Fister came up repeatedly on the board as Hendricks-upside guy when Hendricks was putting up very good numbers in minors.

That will depend a lot on make-up and whether Hendricks can maintain confidence. Recall some folks thought were seeing bad face on mound from him few weeks ago.  Don't think so. Same guy.
