Kiley McDaniel's latest podcast broke down the Cubs front office and what types of responsibilities each title may carry around baseball. Some of the more interesting stuff came towards the end as they got into how different teams use scouts. One distinction was using scouts to follow a certain team's farm system vs having a scout follow a geographical region. He implied that higher revenue teams use the organizational following. They also tend to switch out scouts to different teams every 2-3 years.

The other topic was how teams use veteran scouts. He implied that most teams will use their veteran scouts on AAA/major league teams because it is a cushier job (larger cities, better amenities, etc...). McDaniel thought they would be better used doing scouting on younger players, draft eligible players and July 2nd guys.

Parts of it where interesting, parts where boring, but if you have an interest in how front offices are set up it is a nice primer. He didn't have any working knowledge on exactly how the front office works for the Cubs FWIW.  McDaniel mentioned that he once interviewed for a job with Jaron Madison and that Madison worked under Lunow with the Cardinals. That was something I wasn't aware of. Since he came from San Diego I just assumed he came from Boston orginally.  Madison got his start with the Pirates, went to San Diego, then the Cardinals and back to San Diego with Hoyer.

Actually, Madison started his professional career with Padres---then went to Pirates-Padres again-Cardinals-Padres for third time-Cubs.

It's all in Cubs Media Guide. You can even read about the three folks who work in Cubs Mental Skills Program. Anybody of any consequence not listed in the Media Guide likely doesn't work for the Cubs.

The Cubs announced two roster moves Sunday that impact the 40-man roster, not the active NLDS roster.

The Cubs selected the contract of catcher Taylor Teagarden from Triple-A Iowa and added him to the 40-man roster. In order to create a spot for on the roster for Teagarden, the Cubs designated LHP Tsuyoshi Wada for assignment.

With the two moves, the Cubs’ 40-man roster stands at 40 players.

Jayson Stark on Cubs.

With an unprecedented display of power to win Game 3 against the Cardinals, the Cubs are on the cusp of closing out a postseason series at Wrigley Field for the first time in their history.

It was still early Monday afternoon when Kyle Schwarber walked up into the stands of Wrigley Field. He slipped into a seat in an empty stadium and tried to picture what was about to unfold in the storied ballpark all around him.

"I just sat in the stands," he would say later, "thinking about what it would be like."

He imagined the noise and the bedlam. He imagined the brilliance of the ace who was about to take the mound. He imagined the electricity of a pivotal October baseball game between the Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals, two longtime rivals who had never met before in Wrigley in a game of this magnitude.

Quote
"So I'd say it exceeded my expectations," Schwarber said, afterward, "by infinity."

According to Jessie Sanchez, Maddon spent a whole with Monacada trying to convince him to wait until 7/2 to sign. Maddon made a good enough of an impression that Monacada at least considered it. I think it is pretty amazing that Maddon would go there to talk to an 18 year old that even if he signed with the Cubs he may never of managed to try and get him to sign.
