Bryant walk-off vs. Colorado was my son and daughter's first time at Wrigley.  Little lady went home in the sixth inning..... (she wasn't quite two years old at that point...).  Cubs are up three or four going into the Top of the 9th..... my six year old boy is crying because he's tired and it's 11pm on our EST clocks.... I convince him to stay... we just need a quick three outs, then can sing "Go Cubs Go". 

Of course they completely collapse.  It took a "Kris Bryant Lego" bribe to get him to stay for the bottom.  Bryant hits the game-winner against the Ax-Man. Think I literally threw my son up five feet in the air.... awesome father/son moment, he still talks about it.  Got him that lego, and a $40 Bryant shirt for me on our way home :)

Every team is subject to the possibility of significant injuries, and it could also happen to the Cubs, although career ending injuries seem somewhat less likely to young pitchers than to young hitters.

In addition, the Cubs are slowly building a minor league system that can provide adequate replacements to the injuries that are almost sure to happen, just as the Cardinals have done over the years.  They are probably still about a year away from bringing that to fruition, but it is coming, if they stay the course.

My goal for them is to have them become a 10 to 15 year dynasty, and I think that they are nearing the point where that is not an unrealistic hope.

I'm glad that we have the young talent that we do, but we're still waiting for our first meaningful home grown contributor who wasn't a top draft pick or a top international signing.

Epstein created an organization, and that doesn't happen overnight.  Each draft since he has gotten here seems to me to be an improvement over the previous ones.  Only time will tell if the success is long term or not.

It's true, most of Epstein's contributors are top draft picks. But I wonder what percentage of top draft picks actually pan out? (I don't know, but curious). I wonder how many top draft picks currently contributing at the ML level were playing in the Big Ten two years ago?
