Thats short-term stuff. And unfair.
The big picture is that the Ricketts took over a floundering organization, hired first-rate folks to run baseball operations, and within a few years won a friggin World Series!
Thereafter, until this season, they have been big payroll spenders and on-field contenders.
And, Covid has played a big role in the current cutback, as Cubs were way more debt leveraged because of the Wrigleyville collateral stuff. Yes, they are investors trying to make money and the latter has now clashed with baseball operations, given Covid, in a way not helpful to winning.
And, Marquee probably isnt doing much for bottom line, yet at least.
So, yes, the current spending situation is disappointing. But, lets not reinvent the world every couple of years. The big picture has been a huge success.
