One thing to be said for guys like Ortega, Schwindel, Fargas, Chirinos, etc. is at least they're playing hard and playing like guys who are putting in a full effort every day.

With the Cubs leading 1-0, Davies was one pitch away from getting out of a sixth inning jam.

A three run double by Schwindel puts the Cubs ahead 5 - 4.

So far, Schwindel has looked better than decent.  Looking at his minor league stats, I am surprised that the Cubs got him off waivers.  He has been a good contact hitter with at least average or better power over the course of his minor league experience.  The only real knock I see against him, offensively, is that he seldom takes walks.  I haven't seen enough of him to get a firm opinion on his defense, but so far, I can live with what I see.

And Ortega has more than pulled his weight so far, although I can't see him as a long term center fielder.

Alcantara sure is having a tough day. Two more bobbles, the second of which lets the tying run in.  4-4 with one out and two men on.  Codi Heuer is making some good pitches; hopefully he gets out of this with no further damage.
