Ortega up again with the Cubs down to their last out; let's see if he can come through again.

Ortega does it again, doubling Baez home and bringing the Cubs to within two.

Robinson Chirinos up now, and we remember what he did last time he batted in the ninth inning.

COntrares tying run at the plate.  Ball -   2-2 count, now 3-2 count.  Strike 3 ball game over.

Should've let Chirinos stay in there.

11 walks and 1 HBP in 8 innings pitched by the Cubs staff.

If the other team outplays you, you tip your cap and look forward to doing better the next time.   I'll never get used to giving games away.

The Cubs used 5 pitchers today, and all 5 walked the first batter they faced.

They're the first team to use 5 or more pitchers with every one walking their first batter since the Rangers did it at Toronto on June 14, 1980.

Why the hell did Calhoun not run to first on that bizarro double-play?

Is there something wrong with Hoerner, the leg again?

Baez does something unusual with a runner on third with one out — he strikes out.  Leads the league in strikeouts.

Contreras leads off the game with a double to left, Rizzo moves him to third with a grounder to the right side, Baez Ks, and Bryant goes to 3-2 and Ks on a low and outside pitch.

If there was such a thing as designated fielder Baez might have some value.

Quick quiz - without looking it up, guess who leads the 2021 Cubs in WAR.

I don’t know what WAR means.  I know that a batting average around .240 is not good, it stinks.  What’s Altuve’s BA?  Oh, .274.

It depends on the WAR methodology.

But, since you would not have asked the question if anybody other than your fave Cub was the answer, go with that methodology.
