Happ TOOTBLAN almost costs us a run, but he drives in two...

Maybe...think this might be reviewed...

With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Happ lined a single to RF...the RF'er threw behind Happ at 1B, and Happ slipped and fell going back to the bag.

He might have been tagged out before the 2nd run crossed the plate. I'll be surprised if they aren't looking at it...

They looked at it, and still no one knows for sure. The run is on the scoreboard, though...and the top of the 4th has started...

The digital scoreboards in the stadium say 2-0, though...

And now the manual scoreboard is updated to show 2-0 as well...

And Perez hits one into the front row in LF, and it's 2-1.

Our first run scored on a bomb by Wisdom onto Waveland Ave.

So a Davies TOOTBLAN followed by a Happ TOOTBLAN costs the Cubs a run...

Check that...Davies wasn't a TOOTBLAN, he's just a shitty baserunner...

Happ fell down.  That explains it.  Good reaction by outfielder..

"thrown out on the bases like a nincompoop"

Sal Perez is taking a beating behind the plate today. He's gonna hurt later.

There needs to be something between "hit" and "error" for fielding plays...something where the defense does everything right for the most part, they're just painfully incompetent or inadequate at what they are trying to accomplish.

It just doesn't seem right to give a batter a hit when the play could have been made by competent fielders, yet it seems harsh to give errors when the fielders are just not equipped to execute the tasks they have been assigned to accomplish.

Watch Zach Davies beginning at the 2:05 mark.  As he rounds second and heads to third on Ortega's grounder that got by the first baseman, he does not pick up his third base coach as he nears third and is still looking back after crossing the bag.  He should have scored easily.  That prevented Ortega from reaching third.  When Happ slips rounding first and becomes the third out, Davies should have already be in the dugout and Ortega would have scored well ahead of the third out.

Ryne Sandberg sounded rather disgusted at the lack of fundamentals and called the play correctly.
