On the SCORE yesterday they had Patrick Mannely as a guest to analyze Parkey's kick.

Mannely said he obtained film not available to the public and reviewed it with 2 NFL or former NFL kickers (i'll bet one is Gould)

He said the kick was blocked which directed the ball left.    The kickers told him there was something wrong with Parkey's approach and leg swing were not right, maybe he was trying to put extra into the kick.  The trajectory of the ball was too low so the defender jumped only a few inches to block it.

They also played an interview with Burton from yesterday morning with several reporters.
Burton was saying there was practice Friday and Saturday morning his body was 'locked up" which is what happens when he is injured.  He as asked various questions and didn't pinpoint any moment in practice where he knew he was hurt or even what the injury was. 
He was asked if it was a mental issue which he denied.   Later he was saying his body locked up when it senses danger or something like that.
He was very strange and vague.   The commentators said he has a history of anxiety problems and wonder if that's what it was.  The interview certainly didn't answer any questions.

Still stinks from here to high heaven:

The Bears made tight end Trey Burton a late addition to their injury report with a groin injury that would keep him from playing in the 16-15 season-ending loss to the Eagles.

Burton said on Monday he became aware of the issue last Friday and thought he would be able to push through it before waking up on Saturday to find things were “completely locked up.” He tried “everything possible” to loosen up, but it didn’t work out for him.

“I let my team down. I hate it,” Burton said, via the Chicago Tribune. “Especially going against one of my former teams. Playoff game. All the implications. It was tough.”

Burton has spoken about past issues with anxiety, including a December episode related to plans to have Burton throw a pass in a reprise of the “Philly Special.” Burton said he “couldn’t sleep that night thinking about it” and the Bears wound up having running back Tarik Cohen run the play instead.

Burton said he considered whether his issue on Wild Card weekend was a mental one, but felt he was in “a really good spot” mentally and that the reason for his absence from the lineup was purely physical.

Someone said Parkey's first kick barely made it over and he might have been over compensating on the 2nd kick.  It looked OK to me.  Come on -  it's 43 yards - not much further than today's extra points.  Nobody kicks a 43 yarder short. 

As for Burton.  I didn't know it initially occurred Friday - if it had happened in bed the night before then I'd tend to think it was more mental.

I would be surprised if Parkey even wants to stay in Chicago.

After what Trestman's family went through you know his life in Chicago is going to be miserable.  There are too many weird deranged people out there thinking Parky did something personally to them.  It's football, it's a sport, he's not a good kicker and he missed one.  As for me I didn't expect him to make the kick based on what I've see this season.  Apparently there is a large number of Bears fans who were shocked he missed it.

I was more surprised that he hit the upright again than the fact he missed the second kick.  Just saying.

Robie Gould himself said on the Waddle and Silvey show that the Bears cutting him when they did was the right move.  It made him a better kicker.  He re-devoted himself to the art to become better.  That is why there were no hard feelings when it happened.  He knew he wasn't earning the contract he had so he went set out to get back to his previous level.  Had he not been cut it would have been more of the same.  Cutting him made him better.  (paraphrasing of course).

This loss isn't just on Parkey. He could've won the game though.. We were winning the game, with Philly on their side of the field,with not much time left. Our D couldn't stop Foles. Stop Foles, we win..

Gould wasn't holding up his final season with us.  The  environment with Trestman was toxic and his performance was below average.  Perhaps the best thing for him was to be released so he could refocus and find his swing again.  He is still plenty young enough to go for several more years and if he is revitalized from his time away, this would solve a major issue.


One of the trib writers wrote something that I tend to agree with.  Parkey could go 12 -12 in September, miss a couple kicks at the start of October and then the Bears fans would be, here we go again.  Or have a great year at 39-40, and have to line up a kick in the playoffs with everything on the line again.  It just doesn't bode well for the team to have that always hanging over them one kick attempt away.

After looking all world against the Vikings, the defense did not feel dominant against the Eagles and the 4th down play was one we could have won it on.  Credit Foles, he wasn't spectacular, but he got the ball out on time and prevented our defense from building momentum.

And it makes me wonder if in the back of his mind Fangio was thinking about his HC job interview.  Wish that wasnt even part of it, but the D definitely did NOT play lights out against Foles.

Philadelphia won 6 of its last 7 games with the offense putting up:

25, 28, 23, 30, 32, and 24...that's an average of 27...even more with the Foles starts.

Bears gave up 16 on Sunday

Yeah, the defense had some lapses but the offense scored ONE touchdown on Sunday and attempted 4 field goals.
