Wait till the Dodgers get full healthy years on the mound from Ohtani, Snell, Glasnow, and Sasaki, sign Tucker, and bring in bullpen help.

For Yamamoto to do that a day after throwing 96 pitches is pretty remarkable. Even Randy Johnson only threw 17 pitches in game 7.

BN has a section and a link in a piece today about Kiner-Falefa’s lead off 3B (and secondary lead) in 9th inning—the play where Rojas threw home and barely got the force. There is a long shot photo and video showing exactly where he was when pitch delivered and shortly thereafter.

Kiner-Falefa had a remarkably short lead off of 3B, perhaps spooked by the ending of Game 6.

His 7.8 ft primary lead ranked 357/381 out of all primary leads in the World Series, according to the link.

His 8.9 ft secondary lead ranked 366/376 out of all secondary leads in the WS.

The little things can decide winner of WS. A more appropriate lead off the base and Jays win WS. Indeed, a bunch of things in the extra inning games lost by Jays that change the outcome. One of many things that make baseball fun and fascinating.

There is already chatter on twitter that the Dodgers #1 target is Tucker. not sure how many 30+ players they want at $40 million + a year. but they are maxing out that card while they can.

Dodgers might be a great spot for Tucker personally.  Warm weather.  Safe to be perennial contender, good chance to reach and win WS plural.  And no burden of expectation to be a star or the man.  Just like Glasnow can be overshadowed #4 starter for them, Tucker can just do his thing and take his walks with occasional HR mixed in, without lots of pressure.  Ohtani, Betts, Freeman, Smith are all higher-profile guys.  Tucker could bat 2nd, or maybe 5th or 6th or 7th maybe, but no expectation that he's going to be the big run-producer for them.  If Tucker signed with them, which Dodger fans would be buying Tucker jerseys? 

Tucker's a pretty quiet, calm, low-key guy.  He might like it just as well to not have the microphone stuck in his face a lot, and not have the expectation that he's going to lead the team or carry the team or have team success hinge on his performance.  For them he could just be a team support-player guy.  A very good one, but without huge pressure or expectation.

I imagine Dodgers people, like Yankees, just assume (realistically, I guess) that they are entitled to any player they want or that best fits them.  Given their OF isn't star-filled, it makes sense they'd like Tucker.  They've also shown no aversion to length, unlike Hoyer.  Given their revenue, who cares if a guy might be a bad contract 7 years out?  They can afford multiple bad contracts, really.  Who cares?

Its a fit for tucker, because it will get him the $$$ contract he wants albeit deferred... but at some point, that team is going to owe 200 million to 34+ year old betts, freeman, ohtani, snell, will smith et al.  you add a 29 year old tucker and that number gets to 250 million+

I don't understand why MLB can't institute serious draft penalties for teams that are above specified budgets.  You could factor deferred money into that calculation.  The Dodgers should be risking serious negative impacts on future teams if they overspend.

That has to be collectively bargained under federal labor law because it would have an impact on “wages” and working conditions, as in a salary cap. There are “draft penalties” now in place, debatable about whether they are “serious” or not.

In years past, baseball’s labor fights are almost as much between owners themselves internally and then players vs. management. Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, Phils—at least—likely to fight a salary cap. Maybe Manfred has the skills to unify the owners for the next negotiation. Who knows.

Union may have internal strife too. Who can maintain internal solidarity throughout, owners or players? That will have profound impact on the outcome of negotiations.
